What is the "Trick" to Using the Center Stand?

I'm a big guy (but older) and I can't get the bike up on the center stand to save my life!  I know about balancing it on the two feet of the stand and all that, but nothing I do will get the bike to pop up on the stand.  Can anyone give me an insight to this?

    Thanks!

I assume you are using the scalloped handle close to the seat?  I don't have any problems getting the bike onto the centre stand.  You sure your bike hasn't had suspension lowering?

There was an earlier thread on the same subject and I commented the same as yourself.  However I found it easier to remove side cases so I can stand closer for more confidence I won't drop the bike and set the suspension settings to the two up position as it seems to raise the bike, at least the rear, 3/4" or so.  It gives me a head start.

But truth be told I now created a "pad" of a couple of pieces of 3/4" thick wood, could also use a wide 2-by piece of lumber to roll the rear of the bike on and it's almost there when I need to use the center stand.  Of course, I do not use the center stand when I'm out and about but parked especially for maintenance.

She's a big girl any way you look at her.

If you are trying to do it in your garage, get a 1" X 4" PIECE of wood (or something similar) and push the rear tire up on that. Then, stand on the left side of the bike with it upright and the steering slightly cocked to the right, have yourself standing near the rear of the bike with your right hand on the passenger rail and your left hand on the left handlebar grip. Press down on the stand pedal and lift the bike UP with your right hand.

I mention doing this in your garage because it is awkward to carry the 1 x 4 around with you if you want to do it away from home. But once you get a handle on doing it with the 1 x 4, you won;t need it after a while.

I have no problem getting the se up on the centerstand, once I take off the panniers. For the space that I put it in, that's more appropriate than backing it up onto a 2x6, as it used to my K1200lt.

Thanks for all of the answers so far.  Unlike most of you, I'm more interested in being able to do it on the street and, especially, at a gas station.  I believe that if the bike is up on the center stand and sitting level, I'll be able to get a more complete fill in the tank.

If I am going to fill a gas tank, what I do is load the fuel and I get on the motorcycle and refuel the gas tank. Of course, as a precaution I put the lateral support.
