    Considering buying 2002 Trophy

I currently ride a Vstrom 650 and am thinking about getting another bike. A red 2002 Trophy with 17k miles had caught my eye. The owner says it needs carbs cleaned. I'm a decent car mechanic and have rebuilt car carbs. The owner is asking $2k. Is this worth considering? Any advice?
    Thanks in advance

Hi whitemtnelf and :400: to the Forum.

This Forum is dedicated to the latest Trophy model ( 2012 onwards ),
although everyone is welcome here, and discussions on Triumph Models
other than the latest Trophy can ( and should - to avoid any confusion )
be held in this Section : "On Two Wheels - Bikers Chat"

Consequently , the availablity of our Members to help with advice, or spare parts will be limited.

There are also other Forums and Groups dedicated to the previous Trophy Model,
    that you might find more helpful - Google "triumphrat.net/trophy 3 & 4"
and Search Facebook for "Triumph Trophy 1991-2003"   :028:

I had a 1998 Daytona 1200, with similar carbs, which had been laid up for years. I don’t know if you get a proportion of ethanol in your fuel there, but it’s a nightmare if it’s left to stand 🤬

You’ll need a complete carb strip and ultrasonic clean, new fuel lines and almost certainly, a new air box as the fuel can rot the plastic. But, the bike’s engine will last forever, other than that - especially if it’s one with the dip stick and oil refill on the LEFT side of the engine. Very late ones were fitted with some inexplicable engine downgrades, downgrades which accompanied the shift from left to right side oil filling.
