To Top Box or To Not Top Box

Thought I would throw this out for group discussion....

I really enjoy the luxury of having the extra luggage space of the top box for my daily commute and making runs to the store.  But, I am wondering if the top box has any impact on handling and gas mileage.  Especially over longer distances.  For instance, if I do a 500+ mile day and don't need the extra space of the top box, is it worth carrying it?

I also like the more sporty look of the Trophy without the top box.

To tell the truth, since it is such a powerful motorcycle, I have never noticed strange things or increased consumption due to carrying TopCase bags etc.

Those side case bags are nice!  Can you provide some info on them and how they are secured to the bike?

Yes, of course more was missing.

Now I'm looking for information that Tralex passed me for the grills that are placed on top of the saddlebags.

To me, the bike handles differently with and without the top box.  I rarely attach it unless I need it for storage like on a camping trip as even empty it seems more "top-heavy".  Until recently I rarely needed anything other than the side cases since I can fit my helmet inside one side and still have storage.  The last couple of rides I even had the side cases off and other than looking "strange" to my eyes it actually seemed to handle better.  Probably all psychological but my cases seem to make noise, being mounted somewhat loosely and able to move a bit, and that impacts my enjoyment.  I suspect none of the cases really impact gas mileage in any meaningful way. Just my opinion of course.

Last week, I spoke to Tralex and I asked him for a couple of grills to put on top of the saddlebags.

She also told me that she is designing a luggage rack for the TopCase and when she has her finished design, she will show it to us.

I place and video photos here:

If I don't need them, the boxes stay off.

Tralex does very nice work.  The only downside for me is the cost in $C and shipping it here. :012:
