    Leaking left front fork seal

    Good afternoon,

I discovered that the left fork seal is leaking. No corrosion or pitting on the stanchions.  Bikes done about 35,000 miles. Triumph dealer wants about 600 to fix this, probably due to the electronically adjustable set up. Does anyone here know if this is the sort of repair that can ONLY be done by the main dealer?  Thanks for any advice...

Nothing to do with the electronic suspension, it is like any fork and you can do it without problem.

They sell the kit for the two bottles of the suspension forks, with the two seals and the dust box.

You can buy the original kit or the kit they sell on eBay which may be a little better than the original kit.

Thank you for your quick reply.  I was a bit concerned as the mobile mechanics around here all referred me to the Triumph dealer. I am not practical as a hands on engineer, but I am glad to know that it is something that any competent bike mechanic could accomplish.

    You're welcome.

The only difference from electronic suspensions to a non-electronic one is the upper thread where the connector goes, underneath they carry a projection in which when we activate the electronic mode, said projection moves into the suspension, stretching or shrinking according to the chosen mode, the non-electronic one, is the same but it is done completely manual by tightening or loosening the central screw.

I too have wondered about changing the fork seals.  I have changed many from my previous bikes, but none were upside down.  Looking at the workshop manual it looks rather complicated.  Extra tools needed etc.  I'm not worried at them being electronic, has anybody changed them?  Surely it can't be that difficult.  By the way, when I got my local Triumph dealer to change the seals I took the forks off the bike and took them down in the car.  I can't remember how much it was but nowhere near what you were quoted.  150-200 I think.

Yes, in the Trophy I have changed them twice and without any special tools. Of course, with the Triumph tools it is easy and they are changed in a very short time, now I have the tools that are like a nylon crescent, but I have not yet tried them.

Give this a go before taking things apart...

Thanks for your comments and support. I will try the milk bottle trick and see if that works. If not, maybe I will give it a go and remove the forks myself. I have a feeling that this is going to be a great network to belong to. Thanks again and have a great weekend.  :046:
