Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Failure!
« on: August 26, 2013, 02:45:26 PM »
Well on Saturday Sarah and I set off for Scotland from Nottingham. At 11.00 all was well as we travelled along the A453 out of Nottingham on a 40mph road. All of a sudden there was a total loss of power and both the Traction control and engine management lights came on. Fortunately the lorry driver behind saw what was happening and blocked the road so we could get the bike off the road. The RAC attended and at this time the Traction control light was off but the engine management light stayed on. At this point the engine started. The RAC man followed us back to Sarah's house where we left the bike and continued our journey by car. Just before we left, I started the bike to move it under cover and discovered that all appeared normal.

This morning I tentatively rode it to the dealership and their mechanic will look at it next week then they will talk to Triumph. I have told the manager that I now have no faith in the bike. If it had failed on the outside lane of the motorway, heaven knows what would have happened.

I am hopeful that Triumph will exchange it. The dealership would like any details of anyone who has had this problem

If you had had an issue such as this, could you please message me with details of the dealership who handled it and the date?

Chaos: Could you message me because I believe you had the same issue.

Thanks Kevin. I have invested too much in the TT to not have another (and I love it to bits). This one though has to go. I shall not risk Sarah's life nor mine on something that could fail at any time.

Well I am pleased to say they I have not experienced any such problem but will certainly let you know if I did! Most important thing is that you are safe and I totally understand how you feel about the trust!

An hour longer into our journey would have seen us travelling at 70 on the outside land of M6 near Stoke on a Bank Holiday. It doesn't bear thinking about!

The dealership is behind me and they tell me that Triumph is second to none in responding to faults and rectifying them. Fingers crossed.

I can't recall for sure but I think both Herve and Robmcg had similar problems.   You might want to reach out to them.  In any event I'm glad you are safe

berber

Sorry to hear your misfortune. Very happy to hear to and sarah are safe. That is the main thing.

I am sure Triumph will deal with this to your satisfaction.

That's a bummer Berber, glad you both ok.

I wonder what happened to Chaos's old bike I imagine they couldn't have sold it on, so I would think it went back to the factory to be pulled apart/tested.

I wonder if yours and Chaos's bike had similar build dates ?

Good luck I'm sure your'll keep us posted.

Regards

Roger
