Just checking - normal for cam tensioner to sometimes be noisy upon ho

Tried searching to no avail.
Is almost always quiet on cold start up, sometimes a touch of rattle if it's sat more than a few days and I know that's normal.
But, several times when I have stopped to fuel up, it rattles noticeably for 5 to 8 seconds then quiets down to normal.
Oil is topped up and between the lines and fresh as of July (changed it at 30k and I am at 31.5k now). Running syn 10/40 MC oil. Oil in it meets all factory specs per the thick manual. Bike was normal four bars temp when I stopped. Outside temp was warm, 80-90 ish F.

Entirely normal. Sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't. Sometimes when engine is hot, sometimes when it's cold, sometimes within an hour of the last start up, sometimes after a few months of no start up. Plenty has been said about it here, but if it goes off after a few seconds, it's nothing to worry about.

Kinda what I figured. I know the topic has come up many times, but it is almost always in reference to a motor that is first started. This summer was the first time I remember hearing it (sometimes) when warm.
Sounds great then, thanks!

I don't know if the last tensioners of the distribution chain manufactured will have any improvement or not.
To say that I have replaced 3 tensioners, the first 2 tensioners began to make noise between 18,000 and 20,000 kilometers and the last one that I change must take about 70,000 kilometers and I have not yet felt it make any noise.
Knock on wood !!!

Agree. Totally "normal" for this engine. Sometimes happens, sometimes not. No rhyme or reason.

Mine does it on "hot" starts, if the bike's been over on the sidestand for a while(5mins, etc.).
It doesn't do it any other way.
When I did the last valve adjustment(63k miles), I adjusted the cam timing. For some reason, that quieted it down a bit. Now, it doesn't do it for as long as it did before.
A bit confusing, that it's only on hot starts if it's been on the sidestand. Never when it's cold.
So, I guess it's "typical"...!

Yup - I have decided not to be concerned. In my case it is not on the side stand. I fill the bike upright with me standing over the seat.

For what it's worth, you can try to start the motorcycle sitting on it, if you start the bike with the side stand, the oil takes a little longer to reach the tensioner.
