Some time ago I mentioned an item about electronical problems. Coconut (who else?) suggested to read out the fault codes. During a tour of a week in Germany every day the motormanagement-warning light went on after about one hour of riding. It went out after three or four new starts. The codes I found: 1. P0705: gear-indicator. But that function works correctly. 2. P1577, which has to do with the function of the brakelight-switches.
The rear light has given problems during the tour, the fuse blew every time so we had to proceed with no braking light, no rear light and no horn.
After coming home I have cleaned every contact and plug that is related to those items. Also every fuse and relay has been cleaned and sprayed with contact spray.
Motormanagementlamp still on. Rearlight fuse stays ok. I do not know if the problem with the light has been solved definitively but it disturbs the confidence because I do not know what I have done. It is solved, but for how long?
Where can I find the gear-indicator sensor. I like to check that one also, but do not know where to look for it.
I do hope that Coconut or anybody else ? can advise me in this matter. My dealer wants about € 66,- per hour to find faults. My own time is much cheaper!

The Gear Position Sensor is behind the left "Control Plate" ( the one that carries the Rider Footrest ),
and is just forward of the upper Gearchange Linkage :



Are those two Fault Codes still present ?

For the Brake Light, it could also be a problem with the Brake Light Relay
which is accessible after removing the Right Hand Side Panel :

Another possibility
Those were very similar to the symptoms my bike displayed when the ignition switch wiring was damaged by contact with other wiring/brake lines.
There is a recent recall to initially inspect the wiring (and then repair if necessary), may be worth keeping in mind if you can't find any faults in the wiring/relays etc.

Do you happen to have a top box with added brake light? Just thinking about the wiring/connector on the rack maybe at fault?

Electronics sometimes does strange things and that on the motorcycle itself becomes part of the confusion. How could the DTC of the gear engaged sensor also appear. Or by chance, there is a problem with that sensor.

When there is a problem with the stop lights, it usually generates a DTC code.

You may very well have a chafing between the ignition key harness wires. Note that it has a wire that corresponds to the 15 amp fuse for power, position light, brake and horn. If that cable rubs against another cable such as negative or directly to the chassis of the motorcycle, that will cause a short circuit and therefore blow its fuse.

Thanks for all the good advises. The picture of where the relays are situated may help also.
About the ignition-wiring: my dealer has called me in for that a couple of years ago already and found out that it was all right from the beginning.
I will make some more checks. This year there will not be more tours with the Trophy, only the BMW-sidecar comes on the road.
So next spring we must find out if the things stay ok.
