Another South Devon member
« on: September 18, 2020, 05:25:02 pm »
Hi, folks.  Got a 1200 Trophy with all the touring gear last year.  A bit different to the Velocette Venom that I've ridden and maintained for 43 years.  Just getting acquainted with diagnostics tools so that I can buy the best one for servicing and fault finding (current issue with engine icon staying on and cruise control drop-out)

Hi Teign and :400: to the Club !

For reading any Fault Codes ( which Triumph call Diagnostic Trouble Codes, or "DTC's" )
see this Topic where you can find out how to display any stored DTC's on the Instrument Panel :

Servicing Data, Reference Info. & DTC ( Fault ) Codes -

Scroll to Reply #8 "Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC's ) / Fault Codes"
and note that from there you can download a Document that will explain the meaning of any DTC's that you have.

Once you have checked for DTC's, if you start a New Topic with any that are found,
and include the symptoms of your Cruise Control dropping out, I will reply further there.  :028:

If you are going to be carrying out your own Maintenance I would highly recommend
the after market "DealerTool" device.

This can help with Diagnostics and various Tests and can also perform some Tasks
that are not otherwise possible without a similar device ( or a trip to the Dealership ),
such as cycling the ABS Valves to bleed the hydraulic brake lines.

The DealerTool software is "Windows" based, and while some Members have reported problems
using it with Windows 10, it IS advertised as compatible with Windows 10,
and the vendors are usually very good at helping with any issues.

One task that DealerTool cannot ( yet ) perform, is the programming of new Tyre Pressure
Monitoring System ( TPMS ) Sensors, however this can be achieved using some Free Software
that can be downloaded from this Topic :

How To Use TigerTool V3.1 Service Utility Software.

The TigerTool Software works with the Interface cable supplied by DealerTool !  :028:

You could buy a different Interface - as discussed in the TigerTool topic,
but TigerTool has much less functionality than DealerTool,
so it seems to make sense that if you need to buy an Interface,
spend a little more to get the DealerTool software and Interface,
and also use TigerTool if you ever need to install new TPMS Sensors.

Cheers  :821:

Thanks for the info, Coconut.  I'm Apple-based, but have software that lets Windows run also.  I'll start doing some research.

If you need a hand sorting out or trying the diagnostics, maybe before you want / need to spend any money, I'm only a few miles away in Torquay.
