NORTHERN SPAIN TRIP IS COMING
« on: August 31, 2013, 06:56:40 AM »
Hi Guys

Two weeks to go and were on the way. Other than a trip up to Andorra nothing else is set in stone.
I'll have a base camp just south of Salou so some rides with places to visit would be of great help  :028: :028:

Chaos a few years back I made a similar trip about 16 years ago.  Andorra is a great ride. If you can you should include Lourdes, even if one is not  a religious person.  Swing over to Barcelona.  The is a nearby monastary in the mountains but can't remember the name.  Begins with a M.  Zaragoza is I. Easy range and alapues lives there.  Im sure he would be a great contact!

Be advised with Lourdes! I went there 2 years ago on a trip through northern Spain and up through France. It has quite possibly the worlds worst traffic system or best, depending on which week you are there!

We arrived at th city limits, sat nav said turn left, sign said no entry. Carried on a little, sat nave recalculating, take next left, also no entry!

Carry on some more, sat nav recalculating, take next left, that's a public park space!

An hour later having seen I believe EVERY street in central Lourdes and getting to the point where more curses have been uttered than ever befor heard in Lourdes we spot what looks like our hotel a few streets away! Only way to it was to go the wrong way up a one way!

Apparently the town planners think that it is a logical thing to do to have a one way system which changes direction every 2 weeks!! :005: :005: :005:

Literally someone goes out over night and flips all the signs round! WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY IS THAT ABOUT!!!!!?????

Needless to say the Garmin map people had been there on THE OTHER cycle!!!

Other than that, fascinating place! Go and see the torchlight procession!

You don't want the city of Lourdes itself. You only want the shrine

Done trip a couple of times , Lourdes as stated with candlelight parade a must (both my wife and I not religious ) but sound system and atmosphere second to none.
Also a must is One of France's best places is Carcassonne with a visit to the castle a must.
On the way back la Rochelle port a nice area then up to Mont St.Michel northern France :821: :018: :017:
