Oh well, after 3 and a half years its time to say bye to the Trophy. It the best bike I have owned to date, close to the brand new 350 lc I had in the eighties, I know it doesnt compare now but in its day the "elsie" was an impressive bike. Anyway, 20k miles further down the road on the Trophy and it has served me well, never left me stranded always put a grin on my face. Its a real shame that Triumph don't offer anything to replace it with. So what have I done...... think of what has the excellent features of the Trophy... electric screen etc etc and good build quality? Also very similar looks, none of that "adventure" nonsense, good fairing, panniers, nice comfortable seating position, basically a trophy with more modern spec.

R 1250 RT......... got a deal on a 3mth old bike with 1k miles, with a few extras, keyless ignition, electronic suspension which automatically adjust to suit the weight on the bike, sat nav which you control from the handlebar, alarm and more...

Now.. will I wear a BMW tee shirt? Probably not.... still love triumphs so the tee shirt wont be used for rags for a while  :001:

Will still visit the site on and off, so enjoy your Trophy's, thanks for advice etc received, and when the fun stops... you must have sold your bike  :745:

Congrats, and enjoy the new ride.  Let us in on the pros and any cons that show up with the R bike. :821:  I had a long time at the dealer yesterday getting my starter switch replaced (long story so not here), so I got to look at the new R bikes very closely.  The "Sport" package version was a few thousand less than the "loaded" version with the premium paint job of course.  Just not sure I could get on with one any more.  Doesn't matter anyway, I couldn't afford one with what they cost now.

GavJ, sorry to see you've changed. But it doesn't matter, as long as your still riding. Have fun and I look forward to hearing from you occasionally. Stay safe. Cheers.  :821: :158:

Thanks guys, the sport was attractive to me as well and thats what I went to see.  took it for a test drive and lasted 6 minutes, must have drove 1 mile and turned back. Reminded me of the Speed Triple, loads of weight on the wrists and feels like your head is above the front wheel. Peach of an engine with the shift cam motor and gearshift as slick (as it shoud be on a brand new bike) but the package was not for me so I had to dig a bit deeper into the purse and get a RT. Mine is the middle model, the SE, but it has a few extras added so not far different from the LE. Had to buy a new sat nav... £550  :114: :114: much the same as the Garmin I have but with the conectivity for the BMW.
I have to say, if anyone in central Scotland is considering a BMW, go and see Nick at Dalkeith Mottorad, really nice guy, no pressure sales, no condencending smugness, spent a lot of time making sure I was happy with the bike.
I also called Glasgow BMW, talked to a salesman who promised to call me back..... still waiting for that call, looking forward to that call now  :169: if it happens..

The triple engine is going to be hard to beat, and with the limited time I have driven the boxer engine I cant comment yet... but I will ( warts an all) once I get a few miles done. 2 of my buddies have switched to BMW, both on GS's, and they love the engine so Im sure I wont be dissapointed.

You will have a beautiful memory of three and a half years, which you will not be able to forget and when you find pilots standing somewhere, you will stop to ask about their experiences with their Trophys.

You will see their faces full of smiles and at that moment you will realize that you had a great motorcycle and you know that well. Hahaha.

GavJ, I wish you luck with the new purchase. Of course it is a great motorcycle.

I was about to buy a BMW RT, I was not convinced by the cylinders of the Boxers. In a matter of days I saw a Trophy (the one in the photo) at a fair that had it as a presentation and I did not hesitate to buy the Trophy, I started looking for second-hand models and finally found one, later, all I needed was to convince to my wife and once seated on the motorcycle, to be able to touch with my feet on the ground.

After five and a half years, here I am with her without disappointment for a single day, could you say the same if instead of a Trophy she had chosen to buy me a BMW RT? Well I do not know...

    There is no that GavJ.

I hope that if the administrator of the forum allows it, you can explain your new experiences with your new motorcycle. Also differences with the Trophy.

    Thank you
