New Member Needs Advice

I’m getting back into riding after 20 plus years away from it (It was a wife thing).  After researching, I fell in love with the trophy based on design and description.  I test drove one yesterday and was disappointed.  Negatives include 1) heavy 2) stiff clutch 3) most importantly high center of gravity.  Can you guys chime in?

1.  Yes it is heavy.  Once rolling the weight drifts away.
2.  My clutch is not stiff in my opinion.  It is hydraulic so perhaps you need to build up your left grip strength?
3.  Yes the CofG is high, it is a tall bike.

I think perhaps you should be looking at another bike as these issues will not go away, it's probably the reasons I like the Trophy.

Hi Bpendlet and to the Club !

1) Yes it is, but depending on your stature / build you get used to it.
Read the comments in the Topic linked to by janfmiller for more on this. 

2) Being a hydraulic clutch you can't do much about the force needed to operate it,
but you can adjust the position of the lever slightly by rotating the numbered wheel
to move it closer or further away from the handlebar.

3) A bit like 1) - Yes it is.  Some Members have changed for a Lithium-Ion battery
and don't use the Top Box to try and keep the weight down / lower, but it is what it is,
and again most Owners get used to it.

In addition to above references, put some of your body weight through the foot pegs - this drops the combined CofG dramatically, and increases control and stability (it helps that I weigh more than my top box and battery and pillion combined...) A tall heavy bike provides more comfort for longer (and increases visibility...), but takes some getting used to. Good luck with your decision!

Bpendlet welcome! There is no doubt the Trophy is heavy (but not the heaviest bike out there) and stands tall (especially compared to a cruiser). But, at speed it is one of the best balanced touring bikes I have ridden, even two-up with the topbox installed.  Slow speed maneuvering - such as in parking lots and such - will require skills practice, but will probably come to you with time.

As Coconut has said, adjusting the clutch level to a position more suitable for you will probably help with clutch pull effort. (Frankly, to me, clutch pull effort on the TTSE is pretty light compared to many other machines out there.)
