As I mentioned back on page 1 of this thread the problems are due to Dealertool using lower quality ELM327 interface leads compared to their earlier ones.

It is frustrating when you go to use a lead and find an update has screwed with your driver, but when this happens to mine it takes a few seconds to sort out using a simple program called 'PL2303 Fix' (or similar) that can be found online. It just rolls back the driver and all is good again, or at least until the next update!

The other solution that I use is to reprogram a better quality ELM327 lead, that's fitted with the FTDI USB interface, to work with Dealertool, then the problem never recurs.

Sounds like a useful fix / tool.

I have to say though that since setting Windows to ignore the DealerTool Interface cable
for driver updates ( as mentioned in previous post ) I haven't had any problems at all,
and it continues to use the original, working driver.

Thank you, I am going to go through the post today and try to reset things. I have so many instructions up to this time that instructions can get a little confusing, especially since I have not messed with windows and drivers for over 10 years now. It can get to the point where the time spent on it, is extremely frustrating.

If it makes anyone feel better...
As a former BMW owner I had to purchase a "GS911" tool that basically does what Dealertool does.  They cost $398.00

The only good part is that they are easy to sell when you get rid of your BMW.  Dealertool is a bargain.
