On my Windows 10 laptop I visited this link:
https://www.ifamilysoftware.com/news37.html  it explains how to solve the issue.

I basically downloaded and ran the installer and it created a desktop shortcut/icon to resolve the issue.  According to the link above: The "PL2303 Code 10 Fix" program will be installed along with a shortcut on your Windows Desktop.

On many forums it was mentioned there were clone or counterfeit chips and Prolific made changes to their newest drivers to render the adapters using counterfeit chips unusable. Unfortunately, it renders all earlier adapters inoperative and so you have to go out and buy new ones.

So, download and install the software mentioned above and run it prior to using DealerTool and you will be fine.

FTDI did the same thing about 6 years back - became known as FTDI-Gate. They got so much stick for it that, as I recall, they reversed their decision.

I had the same issue. It has to do with different companies running different programs along with their updates and upgrades that aren't always so 'upgrade'. Windows 10 can be a pain as dealertool wasn't designed to work with it.
I solved the problem by going on Craigslist and buying a Win7 laptop from a guy for $100. Dealertool is the only thing installed on it now. It is my motorcycle laptop, nothing else. Zero issues using dealertool now.

Looks like EVERYONE that purchased a dealertool has issues! Having to keep resetting drivers, buying a laptop just for it, etc.

I say it is JUNK! They got the last dollar they will ever get from me! It should be plug-and play! NEVER AGAIN!

A dedicated lap top was an easy fix that enables me to use a valuable and convenient diagnostic. And reset my service light. Especially when the nearest dealer is over 100 miles away.
Blame Windows. Not so sure we could blame Dealertool unless there's a way for them to program the port options to defeat Window's settings. 🤷

My Dealertool works fine and I've been using it successfully for 4 years on a laptop that is older than my Trophy.

I think it's a windows 10 thing. Older laptops are better for it. That's why I got one with Windows 7.
