    Audio not found

Well I had my 2015 Triumph Trophy SE in for a software update 1.04E and the technician tells me he cannot get the radio to come on so he can update the software. He tells me that the radio is gone and I need a new on at a cost of$2500.00. I did mention to him that my garmin 660 also does not work also and that after driving it for an hour the radio came on and also the garmin. He could not get either to work. The bike has 7000 Kimís on it but because itís a 2015 Triumph will not go good for it.
Has anyone else experienced an issue like this. I donít think ready to spend that much for a new radio.... Thoughts?

The first thing I would do is get a new battery.  That is probably the original battery and it seems that if battery voltage is low on start up the bike will not find the radio.  This would explain why it came on after driving an hour.

Also, the reason for the update was the software would leave bluetooth running after the bike was shut off and that would run down the battery.

That would be a simple $100 repair if that is the problem.

One person on this board had his radio refurbished by the radio manufacturer for under $250 I think.  Coconut may be able to point your to that information.

The bikes battery is just over a year old and has been on a battery tender when not used for awhile. There is no indication of low battery only audio not found. The technician had the battery out and charged it but also found the battery was good. Iím stumped as to why he could not get the radio to come on as he tried everything including pulling the fuse for radio and plugging back in. Because he could not get it to come on he could not upload the new version of software. Iím also wondering why the garmin nav does not work?
Not sure which direction to go!

When you say the Garmin does not work, do you mean there is no power to it, or you can't hear it.

Assuming there are no low voltage issues, lets get the simple thing out of the way first.
If the display shows AUDIO OFF - the way it would normally be turned ON
is to press the VOLUME + Button.  :138:

The Audio Unit is underneath the storage box underneath the Rider's seat.

There are 4 x Torx screws to remove then lift the storage box out -
Check the connector is firmly plugged in to the Audio Unit.

The reason the Garmin Sat Nav may not be powering up is that the dedicated Power Connection for it,
located behind and below the left mirror pod, is supplied with power from the Audio Unit,
but it should still work with the Audio Unit switched OFF, so it would appear there is a problem
with either the Power supply TO the Audio Unit, or within it preventing the Radio from switching ON,
and preventing the Output voltage to the Sat Nav Power Supply, which can be checked with a Test Meter
    at the Audio Unit Connector.

Check out this Topic, where a Member had a similar problem -
where you will find information on checking for any DTC's ( Fault Codes )
and which Pins to check for Power at the Audio Unit :

NO Power to Audio and Sat Nav.

The Audio Units are ( were ) made in the US by a Company called Radio Sound inc.

The Radio Unit for the US & Canadian markets also included the XM Satellite radio
which does not feature on radios for markets in the Rest of the World.

RadioSound offer ( or used to offer ! ) a "Flat Rate" repair service, which isn't exactly cheap ( US $395 ),
but is considerably less than the cost of buying a new Audio Unit. ( Approx GBP £1500  ).
NOTE : These prices may well have increased IF they still offer the service.

I don't know if the price includes International Shipping,
but I understand it is an "exchange" price,  where you send them
your faulty radio and they send you back a working one.

    Here's their email address : customerservice@radiosound.com.

The contact name I have used there before is John Mayhugh.
If you explain you got their details from this Forum,
they should be able to guide you through the process.

    Cheers  :821:

Thanks Coconut. I am picking up the bike today and will check the areas you have indicated. If I get nothing I will try to send the unit out for repair. As you say still cheaper than purchasing a new one.
Thanks for the information. As I mentioned earlier I cannot get power to either the audio or nav.
Only when the bike is on for a long period of time will both come on. A loose plug on the audio unit makes sense. Or as one other response mentioned the battery is just low enough to keep them off?
Either way I appreciate all the responses I have received.
If I do have to take this unit out and send it off I understand that itís quite a process?
    Anyway cheers everyone....Thanks

Removing the Radio requires dismantling of the rear end,
so that the rear undertray can be removed.

There's a Photo in this Topic of a Member's Trophy after stripping it down :

    Audio Unit Removal  :005:

The instructions for removal are spread across various Chapters of the Service Manual,
    mainly Chapter 18.32 ( Electrical ) and Chapter 17.25 ( Bodywork & Fittings ),
so if it gets to that stage and you need any information from those Chapters let me know.  :028:

    Cheers  :821:
