Non Triumph Top Box
« on: December 22, 2012, 03:58:50 PM »
Does anyone know if Givi or other manufacturers have a rack and top box for the new Trophy? The Triumph one is far too expensive and too big for my requirements.

I had the same problem with my Explorer 1200 early last year. It was solved with a universal GIVI rack which fitted with minor modifications. It is for all types of Monokey cases. And it is cheap!
This is the link:
http://www.givi.it/Fitment-kits/Optionals/E250

I don't own a Trophy (yet), so I honestly cannot say that the Givi universal rack will fit or can be made to fit.
Is it possible to make some pictures of the Trophy rack and possibly include the dimensions, e.g. of the mounting bolt distances?
I switched to the GIVI Alu rack once it became available, but I still have the universal rack.

Thanks Mustangpilot for your answer. I have yet to take delivery of my new Trophy. Should be around March time. Therefore I cannot tell you the mounting bolt distances etc.
I guess you had to drill new mounting holes in the universal rack to make it fit your Explorer? Did this reduce the strength of the rack at all?
I hope that Givi will soon list the Trophy on their website and give us the correct options for the bike, but in the meantime, all advice welcome!

RAS,
No drilling was required to fit the universal GIVI rack on my Explorer.

Looking at the pictures of the Trophy and then the Explorer, it seems that the Explorer has a different set of rails. The standard Trophy seems to have a "black pad" in between the two rails. This is where the Triumph rack seems to bolt on to. I wonder if the universal rack can be bolted to these same points? I have had a look at the pictures of a universal rack and it seems to be held onto the bike by bolts and clamps rather than being bolted directly to the tail of the bike. I don't want to get a rack and box and then find that they eject from the bike on the first run!!!!

RAS,
I mounted the universal rack on my Explorer using 2 bolts in the forward existing holes and two clamps in the rear. It was proven to be a solid base for my 45 ltr topcase

Mustangpilot,
Any chance of a couple of pictures of the mounting of the universal rack on your explorer?
Thanks.

Yep, can do. But I am out in the snow at the moment, so later this afternoon.
