Oil leak around lower shock body...?

    Hi All,
It was all going so well, large amount of what I believe is damping oil around lower shock body ,dogbone area. Any ideas gratefully received. The TES had a brain fart after a 80 mile run ,stopped ,parked up,then it cleared. This made me look under the skirts...so to speak.
      Regards.

How many miles do you have on and is the bike used all year? If the bike is ridden you will soon know if the damper has lost all of the fluid as there will be no rebound damping. Is the shock rod showing signs of oil leaking from the main body. They can be rebuilt and there are a few threads on the forum about it

    Hi,
Mileage is 45k ,yep the handling has backed off a little.
A big yes to everything else. Firefox quoted me £200 for a reseal and overhaul, which seems fair to me. Only had the bike from a dealers for 5 weeks he seems happy to give it a go after viewing it later(non Triumph dealer, but very fair)
      Thank you for reply.

    Great service from Firefox Racing,
coincidentally they are featured in MCN last week (weds 21/10/2020)
With that sort of mileage then the shocker may need 'new rod' machining and firefox can get that done but the price may go up a bit, add about £150!
Also give them details for a ''full compliment lower shock bearing''  such as 'Simply Bearings HN2020' as they will probably replace with the half compliment version that mine was returned with.

    Cheers,    Mike.

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for reply, they do seem very professional....and close to you.
I agree the rod may be toast,as I think my bike has been used year round.
God bless UK Road salt! I will keep you updated with progress.
        Regards.

I do wonder if there's any chance/way of fitting a type of gaiter around this shock,.....like what you can get for front forks. :002:

I just used an old section of inner tube and tie wrapped it top and bottom

Thanks for reply,it’s a burden of living in the northern hemispheres temperate climate, inner tube good idea in principle but I fear it may end up hiding corrosion and not letting moisture exit,oh for shrouded shocks like the Honda Benlys?
I will keep you advised as it developes!
    Cheers.
