Ok I'm convinced.

Thanks

So, is there a suggested screen that doesn't take away my mileage, yet still improves on the buffeting?

That's up to personal perception.  Some like the Triumph High Touring Screen that is unfortunately no longer available, or the V-Stream, or even the standard Triumph screen.  I would think a lot of it depends on the rider's height, seat height, torso length, etc.  I guess everyone's tolerance for buffeting is different, but I've had Cal Sci's on two different BMW's and the Trophy and feel they work for me.  If/when I need a new one I probably will downsize from the largest one that I currently have to a shorter one.  I could trim mine down, but at this point I see no reason to do that.  Member Saddle Tramp is also a long time Cal Sci user.

I am indeed, and also have one on my GS.
I also find that highway fuel economy drops as I raise my large screen, but I guess sometimes I would rather be comfortable than frugal.  :164:

OK, make that all the time:153:

I do swap back to the OEM screen in mid Summer to stay cooler, and put up with the buffeting.

Or switch to my GS!  :087:

2slow's solution for hot weather is to just ride faster.  The vortex seems to start about 50 feet behind him.

In my experience, that seems to be 2slow's reaction to just about any conditions.  :005:

Ok. So an cal-sci seems like a good choice but maybe the medium height to keep it from being a barn door. I'm 5'9", average torso.
Since I'll have the stock screen left, has anyone cut it down to just over the brackets to use as a hot weather screen?

Just to throw another spanner in the works, so to speak, have a look at Eagle screens.  Eagle screens are based in Perth Western Australia and hand make custom screens for all makes of Motorcycles at a reasonable cost.  Although the current Trophy is not listed a look at their Web page http://www.eaglescreens.com.au/ and may be of interest.
No such thing as bad weather - just inappropriate clothing.
