Changing Amber Indicator bulbs for Chrome
« on: September 06, 2013, 02:03:18 PM »
I didn't think this was worthy of a full "HOW TO", but today's little project ( 10 minutes start to finish ),
was to change my standard Indicator bulbs from these Amber coloured ones :

.... to these nice shiny Chromed ones !  :

As you can see from the "Before and after" photographs,
the Chromed bulbs look much better ( in my opinion ). :153:

No hint of "orange-ness" until illuminated  :002:

Front "before" :

Front "After" :

Rear "Before" :

Rear "After" :

Short Video clip showing the new bulbs in action :

The bulb type are known as "581" or "BAU15" or "PY21W" and have the locating pins "offset".
The chromed version are widely available at sensible prices on eBay and elsewhere.

Instructions on accessing the front and rear bulb housings can be found here :

I like the really clean look of them! I'm assuming that you get a much clearer indicator from using them as well? I may have to look into these.
...on an old 900  :164:

YES !

No hint of "orange-ness" until illuminated - which I haven't taken Photographs of,
because, well, they're orange like the orginal bulbs ( or Amber to be precise ).

sorry to contradict but I think the "amber" ones will suit the Pacific Blue better! just a matter of opinion,I concede that the "shiny chromed" ones do fit well the Silver
