There's a big gap under the rear mudguard!

Still getting used to the bike, I'm nosing around yesterday to see how to change lamps etc.
After a very wet trip Wed - Fri, I noticed that the seat release lock felt 'gritty'. Removed the pillion seat and found a lot of grit and road dirt had come up between the mudguard and the inner lining. Presumably with spray from the rear wheel.
There is a large gap between the two pieces. Not sure if it's a bad fit or if the parts just aren't designed to mate. I've made a shield to catch the worst of it, but it looks like it needs some edging strip to go around the inner part to make a seal.

Surprising - anyone else had this problem? Or am I missing a part?

I've had exactly the same problem -also grit in top box lock. I emailed dealer about the issue but haven't had response yet. Coming to Trophy from K1300 which has similarly placed locks but not the same problem I have noticed a cheaper fit and feel to the Triumph locks.

Not quite the same thing, but my brother found the back of the topbox on his K1600GT getting covered in road grit.

He pulled down the (standard fit) rear mudguard extender and the problem went away.  Perhaps a longer rear mudguard would help the issue with the topbox lock ?

Standard fit rear mudguard extender??? Will have to look at that.....
Realise this is on a BM, was confused before.

Another very wet day today riding through floods and my first attempt did the trick on the inside, so now to sort the outside.
I've made up a bigger piece up which is also a mudguard to replace the first attempt now I know it to be effective.

Will be watching the Triumph site for the pukka item because transparent PVC it doesn't look right.!
