1992 Trophy - Fluid leaking from front caliper, what are my options?

Evening all,

A few months back I managed to bag myself a deal on a non runner. I love a project and the price was so good I couldn't say no.

I managed to get it running with little effort and then decided to fix the seized front brakes. I've rebuilt both of the front calipers as they was in a terrible state (see images below). They now move freely but unfortunately the RH side caliper leaks fluid past one (maybe both, it's hard to see) piston. As you can see from the pictures, the front lip holding the top washer in has started flaking off and the pistons themselves aren't in great shape with some corrosion/marks. I thought I would try to see if this wouldn't be as much of an issue as it seems and was hoping that it would still seal and work fine, but apparently not.

I've tried removing the seals again and giving it a good clean but it's still leaking, so I'm guessing that I'm going to have to spend a bit of money here getting it sorted as the last thing I want to be doing is riding a bike with brakes I don't trust.

Does anyone have any advice on what steps to take next?

I'm struggling to find anyone that is selling a used RH front caliper, I wonder if just changing the pistons will suffice but looking at the calipers I feel like they may have had their day? It seem that Triumph want approx. £400 per caliper 

Could I fit a different set of calipers, either from a newer model or a different bike entirely, to my bike? Realistically it isn't really worth me spending a fortune on this bike so I'm hoping there are some low(ish) cost options!!

On a separate note, can someone please give me advice on how to use the VIN number for ordering parts. Websites say "Upto VIN: 29155" and I'm unsure as to which part of the vin this refers to.

It seems you haven't noticed that this Forum is dedicated to the latest model of Trophy,
from 2012 onwards,  and consequently the ability of our Members to help will be limited.

While everyone is welcome here, and discussions about other Models isn't a problem,
to avoid confusion they should be conducted here :

You might get better responses on one of the other Forums more aligned with your Model,
that can be found by searching Facebook, or Triumphrat.net

That Caliper does look rather mangled, and a new(er) one will probably be the way to go !

Generally, where VIN Numbers are specified, these relate to the last numbers of the complete VIN,
so in the case of "Up to VIN 29155", if your VIN Number was ABCDE123429156, or higher
the part would not be suitable.

There's a Right Caliper from a 1995 Trophy on eBay UK for £59.94 with free Postage here :

There's also one on eBay in the US for Approx. £16.45 + Approx £10.93 shipping
if you wanted to wait for it here :

In both cases I would double check with the Seller that it is the correct caliper
for your Trophy before committing to a purchase.
