2014+ Trophy SE vs Used Honda ST1300

    Hi All,

Looking at used Sport Tourers and narrowed things down to, OF COURSE, the Trophy SE and the Honda ST1300, (and possibly the BMW K/R series). Can anyone out there tell me what they think/know of the ST1300 versus Trophy SE long term? Comfort, ride, reliability, maintenance?

I have a feeling the ST1300 is going to be low maintenance. What about the Trophy? If anyone has anything to share what they know about both bikes, please let me know.

I have a Honda CTX700 now and selling for an upgrade in size and carrying capacity.

Had about 150 K Miles on my ST1300 when I got rid of it. Good bike, reliable, parts easily accessible, dealer network good. Comfort wise I think the trophy is more comfortable but that will be dependent on your physique. You may want to look at cycle-ergo.com and input your particulars to get an idea of the difference.

I've got ~ 50K Miles on the trophy and would not go back to the 1300. Thing that made the most difference for me between the two bikes was St1300 was last updated in 2002. Trophy 2012. Tech has changed a lot in 10 years. If I crashed the Trophy and had to look at a new bike I'd go back to the Trophy. IMO right now I'm not sure there is a better bike for crunching miles

I suggest you ride both if you can back to back.

    Hope that helps.

Haven't got much of an input as I have only ridden an ST1300 on a test drive. Friends who have had them criticised it for heat from the engine going directly into the aluminium frame. The frame beams run alongside the riders legs and whilst this is nice when it is cold weather, it becomes unbearable when the temperature gets above 25 degrees. One guy I tour with actually had blisters on his legs because of it and both sold an otherwise good bike, it was so unbearable for them.

Good to see you found this site. There is a lot of great advise here.

ST1300 Vs. Trophy SE? Trophy. Why? Two words; Cruise control. (And, I can't hang with the Jetson like sounds coming from the ST1300.)

    BTW - Welcome! :821:

I've owned 3 Honda Pan Europeans 1 1100 and 2 1300's. My reason for buying the Trophy was because Honda never changed the Pan. The Triumph feels more powerful and I feel the standard seat is more comfortable, it has far better fuel consumption, luggage capacity is about the same for both bikes. The screen on the triumph to my mind is better. The engine vibration is slightly more course on the triumph. The honda with panniers on is narrower than the triumph, but the triumph looks better without pannier. Tyre wear on bother bikes is similar, the triumph wears the front faster than the rear, the honda is the other way round. When it come to servicing I think  the honda wins, only because it's easier to do, I've been shocked at the cost of the triumph services, only tempered by the fact it's only every 10,000 miles. I have been amazed at how heavy the panniers and top box are.
In the end the choice of bike is down to the individual, I have done 30,000 on the 1100, 160,000 & 140,000 on the 1300's and 29,000 so far on the trophy, the jury is still out. ( It's just the servicing cost 20,000mile one cost me 1,100).
