    Dealer Tool Questions

    Hi Gang,

Just got my DealerTool and I have a few questions.

Once I install the drivers, I need to make sure that Windows never tries to update them is that correct? How do I prevent this from happening? Do I need to choose which updates are done forever? I dont think I would know which ones would mess up the DealerTool and which ones wont.

Maybe I have this all wrong. Appreciate any guidance!

    Thank you guys!

In the process of getting a new "dongle thing" to use with my copy of dealertool, if you have the new version to quote dealertool

"Our current v3 cables use different drivers to the older v2.5& 2.6 cables. These drivers are very stable against the windows updates and we or any of our customers have yet to have any issues with the drivers updating"

So with that I would make sure you have got the v3 cable.

Otherwise if it fails you just need to reinstall the driver that they supply with it, just follow there instructions to the letter, after a couple of times it becomes second nature.

It may depend on the version of Windows you are using too.

I use Windows 8.1 - Whenever I use my Laptop with DealerTool I set it to "Airplane Mode" first,
to prevent any unintentional Internet connection and possibility of "other" Drivers being downloaded.

I have also turned off "Automatic Windows Updates" and have set that to
alert me when any updates are available so I can choose which ones to install,
then keep a close lookout for any "Prolific USB Serial Port" updates,
and make sure they are NOT installed. ( Right click and "Hide" this update ).

I've never had any problems by following this process.

    I cheated slightly...

I bought a cheap but fairly good quality lead (with drivers that don't keep needing to be updated) and reprogrammed it to work with my copy of Dealertool. Problem sorted!

Hi Guys, I have a dealer tool (DT) running on a Win10 computer the recent Win10 updates upset the COM PORT communication. I contacted DT who were very good in sending new driver files and i'm now back up and running.

I have used the tool to try and diagnose a fault with the cruise control and this showed a fault with the brakes P1577 code. When connected to the DT and checking the sensors there appears to be two values for the brakes #1Brake and #2Brake plus all the other switches/sensors for the cruise control (on/off - set increase - decrease - throttle off).

I note that #1Brake is set to 'ON' with #2Brake is 'OFF' until either the front or rear brake is activated.

Anybody know what #1Brake is on the DT sensor page ?

In DealerTool ( Page 7 of the Sensor Values Tab )
Brake Switch #1 is the Front Brake,
and Brake Switch #2 is the Rear Brake.

When the Front Brake is activated, BOTH indications on the
DealerTool page for Front AND Rear Brake should change to ON.

When the rear brake is activated ONLY the Rear Brake indication should change to ON,
and the Front Brake Switch indication should remain OFF.

    Cheers  :821:

Thank you Alan your knowledge is outstanding,

That answers the question, I have #Brake1 'ON' all of the time which is why the cruise control does not work. I will investigate the switch first as that is open to the weather on the handle bar. Interesting that the front brake operates the brake light as expected obviously something amiss otherwise the #brake1 should be 'OFF'
