Had a brief loss of sanity

Being a retired mechanical engineering manager & a vehicle "nut", I really appreciate sophisticated vehicle engineering & dynamics.
So, I've had a few technically "interesting" vehicles(Porsches, BMW's, Saab turbos, Ford SHO's, etc), as well as tons of different motorcycles(a few being Triumphs).
I have had two BMW's &, after each, I said to myself, "NEVER another Beemer"! They are wonderful machine, but way too expensive to maintain(in time & money).
My last bike before the SE was a beemer k1200lt. What a maintenance hog!
But, they do run so sweet..
Anyway, in surfing craigslist motorcycle listings, I cam across a 2010 k1300gt, that needed a little attention, for $5k.
My mind immediately went into how I could handle the work that bike needed & have a "super smooth" beemer sport tourer for easy money.
    What ludicrousie!
Yes the engine is 20% more powerful than the SE, & it does have a lower C of G. Oh, yes that engine is so smooth..
But, it does not handle or have the steering feel of the SE.
I even checked out major used parts & piece prices on Ebay. They're only about 4 time more pricey for the beemer.
    & NO sound/audio system.
So, my little sanity excursion brought me right back to the  Joy's & satisfactions that my dear SE(Marilyn) continues to brink me, hopefully, for years to come. Especially, when I get that slipping 2nd fixed in June!

Ah, the wandering brain syndrome. We've all been there. Thankfully, some of us don't stay over there too long to do ourselves permanent damage. It appears that your normal and shouldn't suffer in the long term.  :008: :008:

I don't find anything equipped as well and as much fun as the Trophy.

I was just out for an afternoon 150mile stroll on the trophy. It is the least fatiguing motorcycle that I have ever had, & I've had Yamaha Ventures & a beemer k1200lt for comparisons! This bike has so many competencies, I'd be at a loss to begin.

       LarryJa. I shouldn't go there, but I can't help myself. Seriously a Yamaha Venture and a BMW K1200 are comparisons to the Trophy. I'm sorry  :745: :745: That's it I've said my bit. I hope I didn't offend.  :821: :821:

Just to throw a little curveball at you, LarryJa, my Trophy cost a lot more to maintain than my BMW R1200GS during the 36,000 mile time period that I owned both simultaneously. I had one warranty claim for a new rear shock assembly on the Trophy, and not a single claim on my GS. I have owned a number of BMWs since 2000, and have accumulated hundreds of thousands of miles on them in the process, and in my personal experience, they have been no more expensive to maintain than any of the many other brands I have owned.

With that said, although I just purchased a 2019 GSA, I am still happy to be fortunate enough to still have my Trophy as well, and to continue my participation on this wonderful Forum.  :028:

Thought I should have a Kaw H2 SX SE this spring, fully kitted for two up touring of course.  After a modest amount of begging and pleading with the 3rd Mrs. (and the anticipation of a fat tax refund), she reluctantly agreed and I dove into an online shopping spree.  The anticipation of supercharged acceleration gave way to comparisons of some must have features.  The deal breaker was the plug behind the rear seat on the Trophy for my wife's heated jacket liner.  She was never warm below 75 F until we bought her jacket liner.  It probably wouldn't be a huge challenge to add the plug on the Kaw, however, it also lacks a top case and passenger backrest!  I love my wife, love touring with her and have renewed respect for my Trophy.
