    Major help needed

I've just got ridnof my awful r1200rt. Literally issue after issue.

I've just bought a 2013 trophy. Was a nice bike.

The trophy had a gear selector sensor issue upon purchase. Thought ok easy change.. the new wiring was completely different.  I read somewhere it connected to the tps.  I took this off the trophy realising they meant secondary tps. So I reconnected the tps put the new harness to the secondary tps.

I know have a host of fault codes. I've tried putting the old sensor back nothing. Same fault codes.

    I had:
    Throttle actuator stuck open
Ttc disabled due to other malfunction
Cruise control disabled due to other malfunction
Ecu stopping due to control a
2nd tps short circuit to supply 5v.

The bike won't. I'm now down to 2 fault codes:
    Ttc disabled
    Cruise disabled duento other malfunction.

Does anyone have any ideas. I've only had it 2 weeks and the wife is fuming. I know its my fault but not filling me with confidence thus far......

If you bought it from a dealer take it back?

I'm not very technical myself but hopefully, a genius on here will have the answer.

My local Triumph Dealer in Newcastle has always managed to get my bike right for me but Rugby is a long ride for a fix so I wonder if a local Triumph man can help.

    Good luck.
    Love, light, and kindness,

I don't fully understand all of your explanation.

"The bike won't." - does that mean the engine won't start ?

As I understand it, the original Gear Position Sensors only had 3 wires,
and later Sensor versions had 4 wires.

I do not have information on compatability between the two types of Sensor,
and you may need to make a slight wiring modification for it to work.

There may be other Members that can advise, but I would call in at a Triumph Dealer,
especially the one where you bought the new Sensor from, and seek their advice.

Edited to add : From research it appears be that the new Gear Position Sensor with 4 wires
should have been provided with a Fly-Lead having 4 connectors, as the plug on the new sensor
is a different shape and the harness connector will not fit onto it. Part Number : T2509977.

If so then the Fly-lead is used to connect as follows :
    • One of the Fly Lead connectors connects onto the new Sensor
    • One of the Fly Lead connectors connects onto the original Trophy Harness connector.
The (  MAP Sensor ? ) connector is then disconnected.
    • One of the Fly Lead connectors connects to the ( MAP Sensor ? )
    • One of the Fly Lead connectors connects to the original ( MAP Sensor ? ) connector.

    Cheers  :821:

     :400: to the forum.

As always, thank Coconut, since he warned me about this post and since I was on vacation I could not read the post.

I will try to respond with photos as best as possible so that you understand how to connect the connectors that the modified gear sensor brings with respect to the (I think the modification) that the Trophy brings between years 2012 to 2015.

I know it is a somewhat laborious job since you have to disassemble all the fairings until you reach the TopBox intake box to remove the TPS connector and plug in one of the connectors that the new gear sensor is engaged in.

So let's start by showing the Trophy's original connector, as we can see it only has three cables.

This other is the new gear sensor and as we can see it has a square connector with four cables.

    New Gear Sensor Connectors

    TPS connector

    We extract the TPS connector

Once the TPS connector is removed, we insert it into the new gear sensor connector.

We insert the TPS connector into the other connector of the new gear sensor, that is, in series between connectors.
To say that you have no loss in confusing the connectors, since they are different from one connector to another.

Now we do the same with the four wire connector coming out of the gear gear sensor.

We connect the connector that comes from the Tropphy's electrical harness to the gear sensor connector

Finally, we connect the four-wire output connector of the gear sensor to the connector that remains free. As I said above, there is no problem in confusing the connectors, since they are totally different.

I hope my little tutorial has helped you
