A couple of differnt ways.  I purchased a RAM Mount Ball that fit into the mirror mount and also purchased their arm and drink holder.

I have since moved this arrangement to my R&G Engine Guards just in front of my left knee.  Works great.

I use a 1.5 liter Geigerrig pressurized drink bladder that will even fit in my small tank bag, so I wouldn't be a good source of information on a drink holder.

I use  RAM mount and a 'Bike Buoy' cup holder.  I think they were originally designed for boats and such.
Only drawback - tall cups make it top heavy and it will want to tip.  So I set it up so the bottom edge just contacts the brake reservoir lid.  No more tipping.

Found some leftover Ram Mounts in my Garmin box, and bought a Ram cup holder from Sport Touring here in the UK

Sorry Forgot to mention you need to turn the mount 180 degrees when using the tank bag

Seems a really "in your face" method of mounting. I prefer my 2.5 litre container attached to the right pillion peg with the drink hose up to the tank bag method. But whatever works for you is good.  :028: :028:

Almost invariably travel two up, my wife used to hold the bottle in her hand, but for 200-500 mile days on tour this was not good for her.
The position of the bottle without the tank bag i.e. my side of the bars works great for a quick drink at traffic lights, so in my face is just where I
    need it.
The cup holder can hold a thermos flask instead, which is guaranteed to keep hot for 16 hours, in case we want to stop for coffee.
