Rattle at 2400 rpm
« on: September 14, 2021, 08:32:18 pm »
Hi everyone,
My 2015 TTSE has developed a rattle at exactly 2,400 RPM. Seems to be gear and road speed independent. The bike still pulls like a train, no symptpms of distress .
I suspect the cam chain tensioner. Does anyone out there have experience with this?
Regards, Steve

Noises are hard to tell where they are coming from.

Have you noticed if your left foot resting on the left footrest feels like a tremor?

The best thing for these cases is to make a sound recording and thus know more or less where that noise of bells can come from.
Only motorcyclists know why dogs stick their head out the car window.

How many miles on the bike ?

Does it matter what gear you are in, or are you talking about when the bike is in neutral ?

Ever notice how much more quieter the trans sounds when the motor is idling in neutral and the clutch is pulled in compared to when the clutch is released?   Is that anything like the "rattle" sound you are hearing at 2,400 RPM ?

BTW, my buddy with a '13  Explorer XT ( same engine & trans as the TTSE )  has the same "rattle" sound as my bike has when the clutch is released in neutral but it hasn't gotten louder in 50K miles.   Apparently this is "normal" for this trans.

Thanks for the reply! No, it is not gearbox / clutch rattle, which I am familiar with.
It only occurs at 2400 RPM and no load (throttle neutral, neither accelerating nor decelerating)
The bike has about 10,000 miles, and this is a completely new noise.
At the moment, I am thinking to remove the fairing, run the bike and try to localize the noise....
