    Headlight height adjustment
    on: Oct 17, 2021, 09.21 am
    Oct 17, 2021, 09.21 am
Just thought I'd throw this out there for any bright (no pun) ideas.  Despite having set my headlight adjustment in both user profiles at a mid range height, sometimes I find the headlamp has reset itself to the maximum height adjustment, causing discomfort to oncoming drivers.  I then (whilst riding along) adjust it once again (in bike headlamp setup) to an acceptable height.

Has anyone else experienced this strange thing, where the headlamp adjustment has a mind of its own and adjusts itself to the highest setting?  Solutions?

I seem to remember that once the headlights were adjusted, you had to press a key so that it would be memorized.
Only motorcyclists know why dogs stick their head out the car window.

Check the Headlight Height settings in the two stored PROFILES :

The Headlamp Height setting can be saved in one of three ways :

    1) By saving the Setting into "Profile 1"

Press and hold the Select ( "i" ) Button until the SETTINGS Menu appears.
Scroll to PROFILE 1 and press the Select ( "i" ) Button
Scroll to EDIT and press the Select ( "i" ) Button
Scroll to HEADLIGHT ( Engine must be running ) and press the Select ( "i" ) Button
    Scroll to adjust Headlight height
Press the Select ( "i" ) Button to save this setting
    Exit out of the Menus

Whenever PROFILE 1 is loaded, the Headlight height should
automatically adjust to the height previously saved in PROFILE 1.

    2) By saving the Setting into "PROFILE 2"

As above after entering the Menu to EDIT PROFILE 2.

    3) By saving the Setting via the ADJUSTMENT Menu.
Press and hold the Select ( "i" ) Button until the SETTINGS Menu appears.
Scroll past PROFILE 1 and PROFILE 2 to "ADJUSTMENT" and press the Select ( "i" ) Button
Scroll to HEADLIGHT and press the Select ( "i" ) Button
Scroll to adjust the Headlight Height, then press the Select ( "i" ) Button to save the setting and Exit.
Exit the rest of the Menu(s).

    Important Note :
Changes made via the ADJUSTMENT Menu as at 3. above,
including the TES MODE, TES LOADING, TTC and HEADLIGHT
are stored in a "current" profile allowing temporary changes to be made,
without having to EDIT one of the two main Profiles ( PROFILE 1 and PROFILE 2 ),
however these changes will be lost when either PROFILE 1 or PROFILE 2 are loaded.

It may be that you have set the Headlight height from the ADJUSTMENT Menu,
but have later loaded either PROFILE 1 or PROFILE which will effectively delete
that previous height setting and replace it with the one that has been stored in the Profile.

Note that after Loading PROFILE 1 or PROFILE 2, if you adjust the Headlight Height via the Adjustment Menu
this DOES NOT alter the setting in the saved Profile, only in the temporary / current profile,
and it will be replaced again when PROFILE 1 or PROFILE 2 are next loaded.

Some Members find that PROFILE 1 is good to set the Bike up for day to day use
as Rider only, with the Headlight set accordingly,  and use PROFILE 2 when a Pillion is carried
and / or with full luggage carried etc, and the headlight height lowered and saved for those conditions.

Hope that helps explain this somewhat complicated system !  :087:

I have never bothered to set my headlight adjustment in a profile, primarily because I virtually always ride solo. With that said, it has only happened once to me that an oncoming car flashed his bright lights at me in daytime, and upon checking, I noticed that the headlight adjustment had crept to the top of the range all on its own. A quick adjustment to the proper setting once I got in my garage, and it has never happened again.

I just chalked it up as another quirk...  :027:

Thanks for the detailed explanation Mr. Coconut.  That all makes sense.   Because I was making  changes to a "current" profile during the journey,  without saving it,  it reverted back to the highest setting the next time I rode the bike.   At least your explanation will now mean there are less irritated oncoming drivers flashing back at me !

Had  the same issue, I was adjusting the headlight with the bike not running, WRONG, start bike adjust headlight height then profiles and save , done why complicate it ?
