    Zumo XT no power.

Just found out that my Zumo XT battery will not hold a charge if it's not mounted in the holder on the bike, my bike is in store at a mates garage due to my garage being rebuilt, I left the XT in the top box for a couple of weeks, bought it home last Saturday to check for updates and top battery up, to find it will not switch on or hold a charge.

When plugged in to the computer the Garmin logo comes on for about 20 seconds then goes out and also the computer doesn't find it, putting it on charge has no affect either.

Any idea's as to what to do next.   :084:

Try cleaning the contacts on both the unit and the mount.  Mine get dirty, though they look ok, and my XT will start giving 'power lost-shutting down' messages.
some contact cleaner on a clean cloth will do the trick .... until the next time.  The mount contacts are spring-loaded so gently push them in and out while rubbing.

If the battery is shot, there probably is a way to change it if you are willing to perform surgery.  Google it.  I was able to put a new touch screen in my Zumo550 for $20 thanks to google and china...  :156:

    Janfmiller,

Thanks for the info, I have a sneaking suspicion that the battery might be shot.

I will google it and see whats involved.

If the Battery has drained REALLY low, then it may be
that it needs to be mounted on the Cradle to recharge it.

Did you get a Car Windscreen mount with it,
that you could try while your Trophy is away ?

    ( I'm assuming it's out of warranty ? )

If charging with the Zumo mounted on the Charging cradle
doesn't work, then it may need a new Battery.

Unfortunately I can't see any listed on eBay or Amazon,
so it would be a case of contacting Garmin Support to enquire.

It's fairly simple to access the Battery - a Torx T5 screwdriver is needed to remove
the 10 screws from the back ( no hidden screws), then there's a plug in ribbon cable
to carefully pop out, to seperate the two halves and access the Battery.

I'm not sure if you are aware that the XT shuts down differently than older Zumos.

When you turn off the power to the XT, it goes into a sleep mode rather than shuts down.  If you leave it on the bike or off, it will slowly drain the battery.

To properly shut down the XT you have to hold the power button for 3-5 seconds and a shut down screen will appear.  It takes some getting used to.

This is the same way that my Dezl gps works as well.

    tdragger,

This is what happens when one doesn't read all the instructions, only found out about shutting the unit down recently, so I will see if it recovers by putting it back on the cradle and see what happens.

Coconut, Ive looked at the video it looks a piece of cake to replace the battery, and as you say replacement batteries not available yet, also I wonder if the warranty will cover the battery, not sure if I have a car mount, all the contents of my garage are spread about storage points, so I will get in touch with Garmin and see what the score is.

    Cheers. :028:

Zumo XT no power problem has been solved, was able to fit it back on the bike and fired the bike up, XT switched on and started running properly again, plugging it in to my lap top or desk top computer didn't make any difference to the battery level, so I will shut it down properly when I leave it for long periods  :028:

Are you using a Garmin power cable to try to charge it?  I've discovered with my Tom Tom that using the charge/sync cable that came with it is the only way to connect to the computer by hardwire.  Seems there are some differences in how some company's cables are wired.  My old noise cancelling earbuds wouldn't work with a different brand micro usb cable either.
