HEATED GRIPS KIT- Who needs one ? !
    on: Mar 15, 2022, 05.41 pm
    Mar 15, 2022, 05.41 pm
I receive regular messages from Forum Members asking
where they can get a Heated Grips kit from for their Trophy.

The Trophy Heated Grips Kit ( A9638094 ) is now obsolete,
and is no longer available from Triumph HOWEVER - I may be able to help : READ ON !

The last advertised price at World of Triumph for a Kit was GBP 183.75 + Delivery.

Some of the individual parts ARE still available though, including both of the Heated Grips, but NOT :

    A9630002 - Connector Pack, comprising 2 x Plastic ( Male ) Connector Blocks .
These are fitted to the Spade Terminals of each Grip after they have been installed onto the Handlebars,
and which then plug into the corresponding ( Female ) socket connectors of the Trophy Harness.

    T2502509 - Shorting Plug.
This is used on some Trophies to enable the Instrument Panel Heated Grips Icons.
Some Trophies don't have a socket to connect the Shorting Plug, and require the use of
Diagnostic equipment to enable the Icons, either at a Dealer, or by use of After Market
equipment such as DealerTool or TigerTool !

The Heated Grips connection and Shorting Plug can be found on the wiring loom
that also feeds the USB Socket and Accessory Socket - remove the storage box to access it :

There are also two very expensive screws,
and 5 equally extortionate cable ties listed in the kit !   :005:

Having spoken to my Dealer today, I can confirm that availability
of the Heated Grips is not currently a problem in the UK.  :001:

It's taken a while and lot of trawling the 'Net but I have managed to identify the "Connector Pack" parts,
that Triumph can no longer supply, AND the Shorting Plug, and am in the process of negotiating a price
for supplying the Shorting Plug ready assembled with its Link wire.

What I would like to know is, How many Members are still interested in buying
a new complete Heated Grips kit - which would be made up of the two Heated Grips
from Triumph, and the other parts sourced by me from alternative suppliers ?

I reckon I can make up a complete kit for around GBP 125.00 plus delivery costs !

Depending on how many Members are interested I may also
be able to get a little discount off the price from Triumph too !

Please reply to this Message to indicate an interest ( no commitment needed at this stage ),
mentioning whether you would need the Shorting Plug or not,
and if you are not in the UK, which Country you are from.

For delivery outside the UK it will probably be better to order the Heated Grips from your Dealer,
or someone like "Hermy's", and to just get the Connector Pack, Screws and Shorting Plug ( if needed ) from me !  :169:
( Bizarrely Hermy's DO currently show the Shorting Plug as being available, but that may not be accurate ! )

    Cheers  :821:

Thanks Aaron - When you get chance to check,
let me know if you would need the Shorting Link  :028:

Hey, Alan. As it turns out, I do in fact have the blanking plug/shorting link in place.

I suspect you have the Blanking Plug, not the Shorting Link that would be needed !

My previous Image shows the Harness below the Storage Box,
with the grey Trophy Harness Shorting Plug Socket,
and the slightly darker grey Blanking Plug inserted in it.

Any Trophy that has that Socket on the wiring harness,
that does not have Heated Grips fitted, will ( should ) have that Blanking Plug in place.

When Heated Grips are fitted, the Blanking Plug is removed,
and is replaced with the "Shorting Link".
The Shorting Link which is easy to identify by its loop of wire.

It is this Shorting Link, and the connectors for the  Heated Grips wires,
that Triumph can no longer supply.

    These are the parts :

You are correct - I have the blanking plug.  Is the blanking plug not easily modified?  I didn't take it out, I just took out the box to verify what I had there.  Let me know how much your kit is, please.   :002:

I'm still considering options while waiting for replies from various suppliers,
and while waiting to find out how many Members might be interested.

I think I have found a supplier for the Contact Pins and Seals,
and examining the Blanking Plug that I have, it looks like the Blanking Plug
CAN be converted to a Shorting Plug, adding the Contact Pins and Seals.

The best way forward might then be for Members to order and buy
just the Heated Grips from their own Triumph Dealer / Supplier.

In the UK, Owners could send me their Blanking Plug ( for those having that version )
which I could modify and return to them, and supply the other parts needed.

Outside the UK, the additional Shipping costs might make it more economical
to provide a complete Shorting Plug ( If I can source them at a sensible price ),
or just send the Contact Pins to Members who are competent enough to fit them.

"Watch this space" as the saying goes !

I have all the tools needed to crimp and fit the terminals into the connector, fortunately.   :152:
