    Engine Knocking Noise-Please Help

2017 Trophy, 20K service done around August of 2021. Rode for a couple weeks after service was done and the put away for winter. Got it out for a bath and prep for this riding season and there was a horrible knocking sound coming off the right side of the bike. Reminded me of starting the bike and that noise before the chain tensioner catches up. Looked up some youtube videos and was hopeful resetting the tensioner and changing the oil would fix it. It did not. Today when I got the tensioner back in and topped of with oil I started it up and got the same sound as before. Is there anything else I should look into? The nearest dealership is a couple hours away and don't think I should be riding it in fear of damaging something. Any help would be appreciated.

There are many noises and each one different...

Without knowing what kind of noise it is, it is difficult to know where the noise is coming from.

Ideally, you could upload an audio file with that recorded noise.

You are correct, I guess I was a little too vague. It's hard to describe sounds through text, I will try and upload a sound file here soon. The sound is singular as in not a rattle, loose part type sound and seems to be in time with the rpms. As I increase throttle, the sound gets faster. Kind of like banging two wrenches together.

As far as uploads go, can I use the "attach file" option or does it have to go through the image gallery?

Look at this capture and take into account the size to upload, that's why I said audio file, only audio, since you can't upload video. Unless you use servers outside of this forum.

Ok, I took a video to get the sound and found a way to extract the audio but now I have a .mov and .mp3 file. Neither are supported. What am I missing?

These are the only file types that are allowed to be "attached" :

jpg, jpeg, png, gif, bmp, pdf, txt, doc, docx, pps, zip, mpg,
djm, dat, hex, gpx, poi, csv, ov2, mps, rte, gdb, itn, kml, axe

A single file must be no larger than 1024kb,
Maximum of 3 files per post,
Maximum of 1024kb total per post.

You could try using an on line File format converter such as this :

    Video Converter

... If the resulting file is too big, it might be better to register for a free
YouTube account, upload the video there, and provide a Link to it from there.

    Cheers  :821:

OK, After some failed attempts at converting, I decided to go the youtube route below. Please let me know what you think the problem might be and if there is anything to do besides calling a mechanic.

It's VERY difficult to diagnose from just the audio,
other than saying that it doesn't to seem to be right !

It seems to be a more regular noise than might be expected from
a rattling Cam chain due to the Cam Chain tensioner not operating correctly.  :084:

Together with with the brief history you've mentioned,
I wonder how many miles have been ridden since the 20,000 mile service,
where the Valves should have been checked and adjusted,
as the sound "could" be due to one of the valves not having been adjusted correctly,
and has excessive clearance resulting in that noise ?

Did the Dealer who performed the 20,000 mile service provide an Invoice
showing which Shims were purchased to make the adjustments ?

I would also consider asking the Dealer to have a listen to the Video to see what their thoughts are.
