    A bad day!

Set off for a 2 week holiday on wednesday and within 10 miles of home had not only managed to write my Trophy off, but my mates BMW as well. Fortunately, no injuries and all my own fault. After a very happy 96,000 miles and around 40 countries visited, my Trophy will not be seeing the road again. Damage is mainly to plastics, but with fairing halves at £500 each, headlight around £300 and the instrument panel £1000, the costs will likely be too high to repair. I was going to keep the bike as long as I could as I did love everything about it, but, it wasn't to be. I keep telling myself that after 500,000 miles on bikes, this is the first one I have damaged, even though I didn't actually have to fall off it to achieve that!
So, what now? I am having a ride on a GT Explorer next week, but never really fancied an adventure bike. I don't want a BMW and there really aren't any other tourers on the market. I would like shaft drive, a 250 mile plus tank range, good service intervals, comfort and reliability. I think I need a Trophy.
Looking at Trophies for sale, there is a 2013 with 4800 miles, which is in Newport, Wales but the price seems high and it had an MOT advisory for rear wheel hub worn, which seems to point to the bearings in the bevel box. This seems strange on a low mileage machine, or could be a very zealous tester. Next one is at motorbikes 4 All in Worcestershire. This one is a 2016 model, has 21k, with an MOT failure for lights and horn in 2019 which suggested it may have had the ignition switch fault. Any member here know either machine?
Is there anyone in the UK coming up to selling their bike? Non SE actually preferred, but as they will all be 2013/14 bikes I am open to a newer SE.
    Ride safely everyone

Really sorry to hear that, Gary.  So long as you are OK and of course you can still get about on your moped  :038:

I think there are plenty of Trophies around on the secondhand market so yes, it's a keep the eyes open time.

I am seriously thinking about the Honda NT1100 but that wouldn't be for a few months anyway...probably towards the end of the year when any problems with the new model come to light...so hanging on to the Trophy for now.

    Good luck with your search.....

    Gary,
I feel what happened. o as Novocastrian says. The important thing is that nothing happened to you. Motorcycle repairs have a repair or, as is the case, better than second-hand.

Get in touch with John (ReadMerle) and I'm sure he has or knows of something second hand from Trohy.

    Luck!

Sorry to hear about your Trophy. In October 2021 i had a quick look at that 2016 trophy at Motorbikes4all  it needed a good  clean. A few days later i call them and arranged a test ride and was told bike would have been cleaned, arrived ready for test they brought bike out before i got close i could see it had'nt been touched. The radiator was corroded stitching undone on seat and what looked like black paint on silencer tyres not to good by that time i'd decided bike was'nt for me and did'nt go ahead with test ride. I did do a bit of digging the bike was serviced by woods motorcycles the previous owner sold it to M&P then it ended up where it is now.

Sorry to hear that Gary, good luck with your search, I'm sure there are still good low mileage TTSE out there but you may have to travel.

The rear wheel bearing issue seams to be down to the MoT tester. One of mine came with a history of advisories on that and the rear wheel bearing was no different to those on any of the other four Tophies or Tigers that I’ve owned. Needless to say, it passed locally without any advisories.
Were you looking at the new Tiger? - if so that leaves the best possible Trophies at half the price or, if it’s the old Tiger, it’s nowhere near the comfort of the Trophy.
Make sure to salvage impossible to source extras from your old bike (heated seats, grips and topbox).
I have a 2015 A1 with 13,500 miles, that I took a deposit on months ago. The sale is 50:50 likely to fall through due to the buyer’s changed circumstances. I won’t know for 3 weeks though.

If I cant get a late Trophy I think I will be making a decision on one of the new GT Explorers after a test rise on thursday. As Ade says, the right bike might be out there, just not local. Missed a 2017 with 3000 miles by ten minutes a couple of days ago.
If I dont get sorted, I will be listing a few parts here in a week or two. Brand new heated grips, a heated seat, used but good with switch and wiring loom, radiator protector, mudguard extenders, front and rear, good used standard silencer.
