    Fuel indicator
    on: Jul 31, 2022, 05.09 pm
    Jul 31, 2022, 05.09 pm
A couple of days ago I noticed my fuel level indicator wasn't showing any fuel, even though I have most of a tank full. Just had to move my bike and noticed again it is indicating an empty tank even though its still almost full.

Does anyone know if this is a known fault? If not, does anyone know where the sensor is before I start removing fairings? TIA

Sometimes my fuel gauge takes a minute or so to register after I fill up.  Try going for a short spin.  Stop and turn off the ignition and then ride a little to see if the gauge registers.  Try this a few times to make sure there is a problem.  The sending unit is in the gas tank.  You have to dig pretty deep to get to it.  There are some how to's on the site to guide you.

    Don't do anything !

This is quite normal - especially if the bike has been left standing,
or if the Battery has been disconnected, or if the fuel level
has been altered, for example when filling the tank.

After filling the tank the delay in registering the correct level
is explained in the Owners Handbook on Page 34 :

After refuelling, the fuel gauge and range to empty
information will be updated only while riding the motorcycle.

Depending on the riding style, updating could take up to five minutes.

I frequently have no fuel bars indicated, especially after working on the bike,
but the correct fuel level is always indicated within a couple of minutes riding.  :028:

    Cheers  :821:

Thanks guys.  I know when I fill up it can take some time for the fuel bars to show full but I've never seen it do this before.  Good to know it is normal so I'll take the bike out for a good run soon and check to see they come back.

The fuel gauge has a life of its own.  It will always go back to normal after a few minutes riding.

Meant to reply earlier to say thanks for the advice not to do anything.  Next time I went out for a good run the bars came back and all is working as it should.
