    Gear shift issues

I took my new to me 2014 Trophy SE out for a ride yesterday, the first time I had had the opportunity since collecting it last weekend.  I noticed that maybe 50% of the time the gear would not shift up, mainly from 3rd to 4th but also from 4th to 5th without having a couple of goes at it.  I have read about issues with the gearbox but they are mainly to do with downshifts from what I can gather, and the need to fit a modified set of parts.  My engine number is within the range that is in the Technical Bulletin, but is this likely to be the cause or am I doing something wrong?

One thing I did do wrong was to start the engine with the bike cover on the front of the bike where I left it for a few minutes.  I managed to melt the headlight plastic so have that to replace - looks a nice easy straightforward job.  NOT!  :012:

The first thing you should do is check if the rod that goes from the gear change pedal to the selector shaft complies with the 94mm separation indicated by the manufacturer.

I assume this is item 7 in the diagram?  I don't yet have a workshop manual.  Can you please say where the distance is measured from and to please?  I assume it's the centre of the balls on the end of the rod?  It looks like a bit of a dismantling job to get to it  :084:

The 94 mm must be exact, if not, the gear change pedal does not have the necessary travel and it is very possible that some ascending speed does not fit well.

An update for those interested.  I didn't get the opportunity to take the bike apart to check the linkage due to poor weather and having to work outside, but I did spray half a can of WD40 at the linkage.  I went to the local dealer today to pick up a spare key and the gearchanges were better as I rode there, but it did refuse to shift up once.  The tech took a ride on the bike and said its definitely not the linkage but wear/damage in the gearbox and/or driveshaft which is causing the problem and it needs a strip down for further investigation  :003:

    Sounds expensive  :013:
