    Engine Dies While Downshifting

I have a 2013 Trophy and have recently noticed that if I do not take the time to downshift with engine breaking, like when the green light goes yellow before expecting, and with the clutch engaged work my way down from 6 to N...the bike has a tendency to turn off, as if I hit the kill switch.  It always restarts immediately.  This is the 5th bike I've owned and have never experienced that before.  Any ideas?  It has never done this when engine breaking, releasing the clutch between gears with each downshift.

I've had the bike for a month and have ridden a couple thousand miles.  I got the software updated since that had not been done and had hoped maybe there was a glitch with the fuel mapping with the old software but unfortunately the problem still exists.  Anything else to check?

I tried the search feature and doesn't seem to be anything else out there exactly like this...unless I'm searching incorrectly, open to help there too!

    Thanks!

I'm having the same issue at 115k miles.  I've read that it might be due to a worn negative battery cable but am really hoping some others that are knowledgable will chime in here.

It's always difficult to diagnose remotely, but when "Block Changing" down the gears,
and the throttle is not revved, the engine will revert to Idle speed.

Does the engine idle normally when stationary ?

If not, I recently helped another Forum Member with Idling problems,
that turned out to be a faulty MAP Sensor.

If you have the after market DealerTool, you can check the voltage at this Sensor,
which may give an indication as to whether it is faulty or not.

They are quite an expensive part to replace just to "try" though : T1290975 @ USD $96.00 from Hermys

There could of course be other reasons such as an air leak at the throttle bodies,
especially if they have been disturbed recently during maintenance, and may not have been re-seated correctly.

    Cheers  :821:

By any chance, you don't know what version of software you have entered?

On the other hand, you should look at the injection calibration of the throttle valve adjustment, it could be out of adjustment and when you slow down by taking the clutch or stopping at traffic lights, the engine tends to turn off.

I finally found the thread about the TPS (throttle position sensor)  Looks like this could be my problem.

Next to the ECU there is another sensor that is the same as the MAP sensor, you could try to exchange both sensors and thus make sure that the sensor is faulty and make that high expense.

Both sensors are totally identical and there is no problem in that they can be interchanged…

Once I have read what I have put, it is not clear to me that what the translator has put is well understood, so I am attaching the following two photos so that you can see that the Trophy has two totally identical sensors and they can be exchanged without any problem, and so on. check if the MAP sensor is faulty.

So appreciate all the replies...some of the questions...

-no, it does not have any idle issues otherwise, bike runs flawlessly

-if I down shift and engine brake, meaning let the clutch out between gears, never cuts out

-the new software is 1.04E I believe...the old one was 1.04A I think...there was a battery drain issue and that is now fixed

-the engine cutting out on down shifting happened before and after the software update

But thank you for the MAP sensor advice to swap and the check.  I am going to my local dealer for the check on the TPS, will have them test the MAP sensor too.  A friend who is motorcycle mechanic suggested making sure the throttle bodies are synchronized...I think that was mentioned too.

Based on a couple threads about bad TPS sensors...I'm thinking that could be it, but we'll see...

Will keep you posted on progress!
