Try putting a pipe on the end of your strap wrench handle and the added leverage should get it loose.

Finally removed the filter, using a filter wrench.

But I had to use another adjustable wrench to get enough grip on the filter wrench, as my hand was not strong enough to get a good grip on the filter.

All good now, new filter fitted oil added and no leaks.  :152:

    Phew ! - That's a relief !

Thanks for sharing - a reminder to us all to smear some oil on the face of the new rubber gasket,
to help stop it sticking, and not to over tighten when fitting.

Recommended torque is 10Nm - or "snug" by hand then no more than a further 1/4 turn.

    Cheers  :821:

Coconut, I screwed the filter on till hand tight, then torqued it to 10nm, that struck me as being quite tight, I made sure the O ring/seal was well lubed before fitting.

I will see what happens on the next oil change next year, I will definitely undo it while the engine is warm and before I dump the engine oil.

As I have a Big Blue bike lift I had to drop the bike down to floor level to drop the oil as there's no where to place an oil drain tank, then lift the bike back up to remove the filter, as back problems preclude lying on the garage floor for too long, maybe the engine had cooled too much and filter became tight again, so filter will be off first next time, I will fit some type of frame to hold the drain tank with the bike in the air for next time.

Thanks one and all for the help and ideas.  :821:
