    Trophied :

So sorry to hear about your situation.  Sounds like the engine is toast, but I hope I'm wrong.   I would use the borescope to go down the sparkplug holes.

BTW,  I bought a manual cam chain tensioner recently and am now more motivated to install it sooner than later.  The rattling at start-up after the bike is sitting for several days really bothers me.

Never had a rattle from the tensioner after the initial startup once I reset it and reinstalled according to the manual when I adjusted the valves.  It was running very well, idling smoothly, no valve clatter, went about 800 miles with no indication of a problem.  Looks like I may be looking for another Trophy since I have a lot of spares and maintenance parts and BRAND NEW Michelin Road 6 GT tires with less than 1K miles on them.

    Trophied :

How many miles on the bike ?

It sounds like a catastrophic event happened,  like maybe the cam chain snapped ( ?? ).  Unfortunately these type of things can happen anytime to any make bike.

It's going to be interesting to know what you find out.  My condolences go out to you.

I'm going to have a look by stripping in down enough to get a look at the valves through the throttle bodies, and the cylinders through the spark plug holes and I'll go from there.

I got as far as stripping it enough to be able to look through the throttle bodies and that stopped me cold right there.  No need to go any further.  The intake valves on the #3 cylinder are bent in an S shaped and are cockeyed in the ports.  I can't imagine there isn't damage to the head with the way they're bent.  Probably will be a similar look on the exhaust side, so it's going to be very pricey, and maybe not even worth it considering the value of a 2013.  I may just wait until we're able to replace it and move the things I've added over to another one and sell this one for salvage.

Ouch! :431: Sounds like you may have the right idea on another bike, all things considered. Maybe salvage parting can get you part of the way to a new ride.

Bummer, Bummer .....   I wonder what caused the failure ?   Maybe you should take a look at te piston.  If it looks good, maybe a head replacement would be all it would take.  Any available on Ebay ?   How many miles on the bike ?

Just over 40K miles.  Had fresh oil and coolant, brake fluid, brake pads, new Road 6 GT's less than 1K miles ago, and valves adjusted to within specs.  My wife wants a trike so she can go on trips with me as she can't do the back of the Trophy.  They are very expensive.  In any case it will be a while before I can do anything.
