    IBA Great Lakes 100

So, 7 of us did an IBA Great Lakes 100 ride last week.  We all had different starting & stop locations and all met at the Wyandot Service Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike on Tuesday.  Three K1600's , one R1200RT , one R1250RT , one KTM 1290SA  and my Trophy SE.

I started on Tuesday at about 6 am and finished at about 8:30 pm on Friday.  Did 2,721 miles in about 86 1/2 hours.  This ride must be finished in less than 100 hours.  This was my fourth Great Lakes 100 ride.

Here is a link to the track of the Trip.  After it loads wait a bit to see the track :   https://new.spotwalla.com/trip/b769-20ac3550-a4b7/view

Click on any point to see the data at that calculated at that point.  I’m using “Bubbler Free” on my Android phone.  Bubbler sends the data to Spotwalla where I can create the Trip.  You could do this with your cellphone also.   If you have an iPhone, then use SW Tracker instead of Bubbler to send the data to Spotwalla.

Day 1 was pretty hot :  85-90 degrees.   Day 2 started hot before we ran into a 42 degree rainy cold front.  Cold & wet on Day 3.  Day 4 was better except for the usual crazy traffic through Chicago.

Someday.  This is on my list.

During the IBR I rode the north shore highway from Thunder Bay to SSM to get to Mackinac.  Is that not a good route to continue east?  What makes the job north more desirable?

Nothing bad about taking the north shore.  I rook the north shore on my first GRT LKS 100.  Our route this week kept us from going through Toronto which is almost or just as bad as going through Chicago.

If you ever do this ride, I suggest you take HWY 144 between Sudbury & Timmins.  It's a great MC road - plenty of sweepers, beautiful country and the road is in great shape and very little traffic.  We gassed-up and had lunch at Timmies in Chelsford before going north on HWY 144.  Sudbury is an interesting area geologically too.  Three of us went to Sudbury and did HWY 144 and the other four went north at North Bay up to Cochrane before heading west to Hearst the second day.

Thanks Hackle !  It was the toghest ride I've done so far due to the temp extremes and cold rain.  I'm really getting too old for this stuff.

Gotta add that my back was killing me the last 2 days.  I could barely get off the bike the last day at the last 3 gas stops.

Never had this problem before.  Did the same ride last year.  i was tempted to pack it in after day 2 because of the cold rain but decided not to because if I did I would have rode right back into the cold rain again.  Continuing west on the planned route on Day 3 let the cold rain pass us by. to the east.
