    Oil filter will not budge!

Nice day in WI - 50's, sunny. . .  Eh, I'll change the oil on the bike before it gets too cold out.  Drain it, and go to remove the oil filter.  Won't move.  Crap. . .  Loosen the lower plastic to give myself some more room.  Still won't move.  Tried using sandpaper and wrapping a strap around the filter.  Nothing.

    Anybody got any other ideas?

Is it the original filter or have you or someone else replaced it before, and is it warmed up or cold?  I have a pair of the oil filter pliers that look similar to Channelocks, but with protruding serrated grippers that I bought for just that problem years ago.  I haven't found a filter they won't remove yet.  The only thing I can find on the is a plastic nameplate that has PH on them, but a search turned up this: Performance Tool Oil Filter Wrench - W54311

Yeah, it's been replaced - by me.  Guess I went a little too tight the last time.  The bike was warmed up.  I just can't get a good enough grip to turn it.  Thanks for the pliers recommendation.  I'll get those on order.

You might even find them or some just like them, at a local auto parts store. :821:

K&N Filters have nuts on the end. The end cap socket type works very well too.  You can use either to tighten the filter too.

That's what I'm using, but I had to get the pliers for the original filter on my '13 installed by the dealer at the 500 mile service.

You can use either to tighten the filter too

... and that's probably how Oil Filters get overtightened !

Hand tight and no more than another 1/4 turn, making SURE that the mating face
of the rubber gasket has been smeared with clean engine oil first.  :028:

    Cheers  :821:
