    40 Amp main fuse

After reading a recent post about a poor connection on the tiny 40 Amp main fuse,  I decided to install a MAXI fuse as suggested in the post.

First off, be advised that Littlefuse has the MAXI fuse and Bussman has the MAX fuse.   They both look almost identical but they aren't.   A Littlefuse MAXI fuse will fit in either a Littlefuse or a Bussman fuse holder.  But a Bussman won't fit in the Littlefuse fuse holder.

I found a Littlefuse MAXI fuse holder at Digikey - see pic.   It's nice because the wires connect to the fuse holder in the same direction ( just Ike the OEM fuse holder ).

Now I have a little more peace-of-mind with the Maxi fuse holder and fuse installed.

hey stjim, I like the fuse holder you got. I just did like nert and crimped on 2 connectors and slid them on a maxi fuse but I did heat shrink it and it looks good but the way you did it with the holder is better. I'll do it someday. I  hope it helps you like it did mine. Definatly  helped the charging on mine.

    Gonzo :

Electrically speaking, theoretically you proably have a better connection than by using a fuse holder.  We both have 2 crimp connections, but then with a fuse holder there are 2 additional screw connections.  Probably won't make a difference in reliability tho IMO.

I don't want to be picky (oh, alright I do really), but I was the UK Sales & Distribution Manager in the 1990s for Littelfuse and that's how it is spelt !  Weird, I know, but it is an American company and Americans can't spell to start with.  For example, tyres are tires, pavements are sidewalks, bonnets are hoods and so it goes on....and Littelfuse is not written Littlefuse, no matter how much autocorrect sends you down that route  :008:

Ironically, I was based in Washington.....in Northern England ! and Littelfuse was an American company owned by Hawker Siddeley with our Head Office in Utrecht, Netherlands.  Confused?  It took me weeks to figure it out too  :002:

Thanks for the clarification!  And cars have boots to Brits, and there are jubilee clips under the hood too!  :087:  Too many differences on both sides of the pond to comprehend because we drive on Parkways, and park in Driveways!  Hats off to Gallagher for some really good ones.:745:
