Outer Hebrides
« on: October 13, 2013, 10:42:21 PM »
I fancy doing a trip to the Outer Hebrides in May next year via Skye ( just in the planning stage). Anyone out there who has done it?
Would appreciate any feedback and recommended places to stay and places to visit.

Are you planning on doing the whole Hebrides chain i.e. South Uist,Benbecula,North Uist then Harris and Lewis or just Harris and Lewis?

I was hoping to do the whole Hebrides chain ( not Barra). Any information you can give would be helpful. Planning to come from Skye thought Tarbert might be a good base? How long would you suggest I take to ride around the Hebrides chain?
Cheers

You could do it that way but another way would be to take the ferry from Oban to South Uist then ride north through the archipelago and finish in Stornoway then take the ferry back to Ullapool.Cal mac do what they call a hopscotch ticket for such a trip. You could do it in 36 hrs if in a hurry,2-3 days if taking it easy, maybe 3-4 days if staying to explore.

Cheers Iain. Me and a mate of mine ( on a goldwing) are planning something similar at the end of may over 8 days. Did the full west coast of Scotland a couple of years ago and it really is stunning. Enjoy Bluebird!
Your always in the .... it's just the depth that varies
