Oil leak?
« on: January 06, 2014, 09:17:16 AM »
Well rode to work again this morning. Full of the joys of spring. It rained but I was dry as a bone.

Stopped the bike at work, placed it on the sidestand and took a walk round (it was filthy). I have noticed a slight smear of oil on the top of the drive shaft running from the direction of the engine and ends at the tip of the shaft. Now there is only a smidgin of it and there was also water there but it does worry me.

It could simply be road dirt and a little swarf. It could also be the remnants of the 500 mile oil change (I noticed a splash or two around the filler cap when I got it home after the service).

I checked the hugger and it is just wet, no more than that.

Given all the problems I have though you do have to wonder (I don't want another new engine fitted).

Has anyone else seen this. Sorry I do not have a photo.

Either way, I shall wipe it dry tonight and see what it looks like when I get to work tomorrow.

Hi Berber,

I have never noticed any oil leaking from anywhere on mine as yet,
but it has only had the first 500 mile oil and drive shaft oil changes.

Keep us posted  :028:

No, never noticed any oil so far, at 6000kms.  I haven't ridden in decent rain yet just to see what happens when the water goes through the bike.

I have ridden in all weather from torrential down pour to 39degC.  No oil leaks  at 14,000K
No such thing as bad weather - just inappropriate clothing.

Thanks Guys

My first engine had no leaks whatsoever either.

I shall dry it at lunchtime and see what it is like when I get home tonight.

*sighs*

False alarm (phew).......

I checked the bike at lunch and it was bone dry. Had there been an oil leak it would still have been there.

Sorry guys I must be getting paranoid (can you blame me).

Not really given you experiences!  I would suspect oil from the engine oil change. Even a few drops can spread far and wide.
