garmin 660 numpties guide to getting it working.
« on: January 22, 2014, 06:26:12 pm »
High chaps bike went in for first service and to connect up garmin 660 (well a navigator IV)

Now it powers up jubbly when I turn ignition on but can't hear directions through speakers, before it was using it's own speaker.

Cables connected to correct terminations

Also getting a strange message about USB being connected to wrong port eak!

Any help gratefully received.

Hi,

I notice you say "Cables connected to correct terminations" - the most likely cause of such an issue
is the audio plug not being connected to the dedicated connection on the Trophy.

If it IS connected, I would check your device to ensure there isnt an internal setting to enable external audio,
and also check that the 3,5mm socket of your device is compatible with the 3.5mm audio Jack on the Trophy.

Assuming those to be correct :

I am not familiar with the the Navigator IV device,
but have you looked through the "HOW TO : Check the most common faults and issues" topic ?

You may find some answers / pointers there, particularly under
" AUDIO : No Volume from Sat Nav or USB device

and on Page 2 : SAT NAV : GARMIN ZUMO 660 - AUDIO NOT WORKING WHEN "NAV" IS SELECTED.

TA Mr C,

I was just trawling through book, saw the NAV option but thought that was to enable music from Garmin.

Will have a wander to garage at weekend see if I can nudge it into life by selecting NAV.

Hi again,

Yes that's probably it then !

Repeated pressing of the Select button until "NAV" appears in the Instrument Panel display,
selects wheatever is plugged into the Trophy audio Jack plug - which is designed for the Sat Nav,
so is displayed as "NAV".

I have not come across the other issue you mentioned of "USB being connected to wrong port",
if this is still a problem, coudl you elaborate on exactly what the message is,
and under what circumstances it is displayed ?

Mr. Coco, checking wire frequent failures

the fall of the speedometer needle to zero, is solved with the change of clocks and lcd screen with a new unit in warranty

There is another related failure TES fit sometimes gets fixed adjustment light, turn off the bike must wait a couple of minutes, and restart the bike, colver make the adjustment and it works.
This usually happens if the Tes adjustment is made, with the bike loaded weight

Hi Miss,

Thanks, but I don't understand all of your translated message ... this topic is about the Sat Nav connection and operation.

Make sure the volume is turned up high for both master and the actual instructions and or media.  Also the NAV should take priority over any other selection so for example you can be listening to iPod and if the sat nav wakes up the audio switches to it and when silent back again.  Also NAV will get displayed on the screen when it breaks through.  I just turn down the master volume when I don't want sat nav alerts or instructions and up when I do.
