DealerTool set up problems
« on: January 28, 2014, 06:53:49 am »
I am trying to get my Dealertool to work for the first time.

Here are the facts.  What could I be  doing wrong?

Using Windows 7 with Dealertool software version 6.00A. Hardware version 2.

Port number is com 5 and my device manager agrees under "Ports (com & LPT)" as "usb serial port (com 5)"

Message on screen status line are:

"Vista/ Win 7"  "DT Interface found"  "Comport 5"  "ECU Status=???"

I connect it up to the connector above the battery. Turn the ignition on. Kill switch is on normal for riding)USB is connected to notebook computer. Engine not running, ignition on.

I go to "Read ECU Dada".

It goes to "connecting to ECU" and hangs on one bar forever. One red light on unit (extreme left side). The other four lights flash on for a fraction of a second only when I connect it up wit the ignition on.

I have had it on for 5 minutes, it reads nothing. The PDF instructions says it should take 20 seconds at the most.

What did I miss? I have fooled around with it for around  an hour and cannot get it to read my ECU.

Mine hung the first time as well.
Sounds like the communications work OK.

Can't remember, but does the bike have to be in neutral as well ???

My bike was in neutral when it hung. I just double checked.

But you gave me an idea.

Could it be the sidestand must be up?

I will go check.

Maybe do a uninstall and reinstall the program ???

PS, make sure you install it via the program     DealerTool Installer.exe

That way it installs the correct drivers

I was just doing that before I got your message. I will try again right after the program is re-installed and let you know what happens.

The fresh uninstall and reinstall made no changes at all. Still hangs.

Maybe I will try another computer before I give up, but that won't be until later. It's past 0100 hrs and and it's my bed time.

I give up for now. Good night!

Does it normally get the drivers (I mean the drivers that install after the USB is plugged in) from Windows Update on-line or from the CD itself? Mine used Windows Update. Could that be the problem that my drivers are too new for the DT software?

Maybe I can try to reinstall DT with no internet connection.
