5000 miles in 5 days
« on: January 31, 2014, 08:24:18 PM »
Hello all
On july 5th im going to attempt to ride my trophy, 5000 miles in 5 days, the ride will be verified by the iron butt uk.
If i complete this i will be the first british rider to complete a saddlesore 5000.
My route roughly is carlise to john ogroats to lands end to millau viaduct, then cape st vincent (westerly point of europe) then back to carlisle.
Im doing this ride to raise funds for the royal british legion (riders branch) and am funding the ride myself, but am approaching businesses for any help.
I intend to get in bike, ride, mcn ect ect.
Please feel free to share this information on any other forum you may beon.

Good luck, my kind of riding!!!

When I do these rides I start on a liquid diet a week before the ride, usually slim fast or the like to get the stomach used to it. Then I dont have to stop for food... I usually dilute it with water and kill 2 birds at once... stay hydrated is key.  Service the bike and new tires then put some miles on her to make sure all is good before the big day.  I can usually do 1000  miles in 16-18hrs which allows for enough sleep.  I have full riding gear on that is good for all kinds of rain. No need to stop and change gear.

Wow, good luck with that.... But I can't help but think that is not safe for you or other road users!

16 plus hours a day riding for 5 days solid.... You will be exhausted and a liability!

Ask an LNG distance lorry driver about the regulations they have to adhere too to ensure they alert and safe on the road!

Liability only if he does not train for it. I usually do 3 or 4 1000 miles days leading up to a ride like this.

Personal best was 11870 miles in 10 days with close to 10000 miles in training leading up to it.

It can be done safely and responsible if you set your mind and arse to it.

Rather you than me.... Riding is no longer fun like that... That becomes a chore to be endured!

But fair play to you.... Each to their own

I did the 1000, the 1500 and the 2000 mile IB jaunts in one extended ride  simply because I had to be somewhere quickly and back. I suppose it is nice to get the certificates and patches.  But to be honest it wasn't fun and other than my need to be somewhere quickly I thought it a waste of time and ride.  But all the  luck to you if that is what makes you happy.

Good luck with it  :028:

What's with the "Just Giving" address though : "mark-moped-anderson" ?

I hope that isn't a reference to the Trophy  :745:

I see that your similar fund raiser last year was a success  :047:

... and as it's for such a Good Cause ( Royal British Legion ),
and with a higher Target / greater distance than last year, I've dropped you a small donation :821:
