Audio system issues post ECU upgrade/replacement.
« on: February 25, 2014, 09:32:33 am »
As mentioned in the ECU/ECM saga after picking up my TTSE post ECU swap the radio firstly would not pick up radio stations, and now barely picks up local stations (AM and FM frequency). After checking the antenna connections I'm a little mystified as to why the loss of signal?

Any thoughts????? :183:

Thanks to Queensland Ken the audio is the most current version and the regional setting is Australia.

Did you check all three antenna connections ?

One flylead from the base of the antenna with a ring terminal connected via one of the front trim screws,
One plug in connector from the loom to the radio unit, which is underneath the riders seat stowage box
( remove the box for access to it ), and,
One tucked away underneath the instrument panel fascia somewhere where the lead from the antenna connects to the loom.

If all those connections are all good, then I can only assume the radio unit itself has a fault  :084:

Hi Coconut,

Checked only the antenna connects behind the R/H mirror. Currently I'm time poor to check the remainder, especially behind the instrument console. So back to the service manager to fix.

If you put the radio on AM on any weak station that you can hear, and then you put your hand on the bike's antenna, does anything change (it should)?

Did you check the coax for an open or short with an ohmmeter?  Perhaps the antenna cable got pinched when they worked on the bike. Or broke on the base of the antenna or connector.

If you can get to the radio (which I never tried to do in my TTSE), you can try to see what happens when you temporarily put a three foot wire direct to the radio antenna input and see if the AM radio then works better.

I still think it's an antenna problem, not a radio problem, and these are ways to prove it.
