All parts needed to wire in my Zumo 550
« on: March 03, 2014, 01:47:07 pm »
Hello!
I am picking up my new Trophy this week and have ordered the CNC sat/nav bracket so that I can install my Zumo 550 on the center dash. It seems I also need to order an OEM connector cord of some kind? Can anyone confirm that for me? Thank you

Hi Padman.... yes, there is a connector cable that allows you to wire the harness that comes with the Garmin cradle to the smoothed power supply of the Trophy.

The part number I believe is on another thread in here but I am struggling to find it at the moment.

I have found a link to the part you need GPS Connector

Padman63,
I speak up here because I don't want you to end up with the wrong items. If you are using A Zumo550, the Triumph Accessories will not work. The CNC bracket and the power cord are for the Zumo 660, which is completely different.
I bought another power cable for the 550 off ebay for my Trophy, and left the original on my other bike, then mounted the 550 bracket to a bracket which attaches to two bolts for the handlebars. Puts the GPS in the same basic location, but lower. Does not block the dash, dials and don't have to relocate the XM antenna. You will also need the 3.5mm male/female audio cable. If you look on page 2 of this section for: "Little different take on finding audio plug" I think you may decide you can do it yourself and save a few bucks!

Hi shyoung... thanks for putting me right... I foolishly assumed it allowed any cradle that required a positive and negative connection to the power supply. I stand corrected. Padman, apologies for giving you a bum steer! :430:

See here.

Above comes with six tie wraps and a small booklet for the wrong bike (Triumph Tiger, IIRC), which is rather useless. So if you have your own tie wraps, you might as well just order this instead and save a few bucks.

The Triumph connector is simply a power connector. It's best that ANY GPS that needs 12 volts goes to that connector. IOW, the Triumph item number A9938122 or A9930122 is still required. My understand is that this power connector inside the TTSE is filtered to help keep noise off the line to the GPS. The A9938122 plugs into this power connector, which is right next to the small little audio cable that looks like a small capped hose. The other end of the A9938122 is simply two wires with 12 volts that can go to any GPS with a 12 volt input.

DonTom, cropbiker, Padman63,
Actually, Don is correct on this one. I forgot I did use the Triumph cable to connect to the 550 power cable! One too many vodka martini's!
Hopefully, Padman63, you can decipher all this and come up with the correct pieces! If you have any questions, just ask! Of course the answer may leave a little to be desired!
My apologies!

Hmmm, I basically ordered that GPS mount because of the plate that had the four holes in it. It looked to me like the 550 cradle would match up to those holes. If not, well I guess I can always return the mount. I really hope there is a way to attach the Zumo 550 on top of the center dash. Thanks for your help! :062:
