GPS confusion
« on: March 07, 2014, 10:50:30 pm »
I have read a lot of information about installing a GPS on the TTSE, but everyone talks about using the Garmin Zumo 660. When I go to Triumph's website to order the bracket it says it is for the Garmin Nuvi 660. Is there a difference because it is a USA bike with XM Satellite radio? I just don't want to order the wrong stuff, get the bike all apart and not be able to put it on. :157: :087:

Get the bracket from Triumph, not Garmin. You want Triumph part number A9828011.

I believe the Nuvi series is geared more for cars and the Zumo series is specific for motorcycles. Zumo series are waterproof and "glove friendly" You will find also that the Zumo's are much more expensive. I have had the Zumo 550 for years and it is a great unit. good luck :152:

Just to add to the confusion ....

[ as if there wasn't enough already with the question of whether the "660"
has been discontinued or not by Garmin, - latest information ( at least in the UK )
is that the 660 is only available as the 660LM with Lifetime Map updates ) ..... ]

..... I see that on the Triumph motorcycles ( UK ) web site,
the "CNC Machined GPS Bracket" is now described as :

Machined aluminium GPS mounting kit designed to accommodate the Garmin Nuvi 660 navigation system. (May fit others)
Anodised black finish with laser etched detailing. Not suitable for US Specification models fitted with Satellite Radio.
This Triumph part, when I bought it, definitely said it was for the ZUMO 660 ( and IIRC also the 220 )   :087:

On the Triumph Us ( .com ) site the description for the version accommodating the XM antenna also states :

The Triumph CNC Machined GPS Bracket is a durable GPS mounting bracket for the Garmin« Nuvi 660 and 220 GPS units (but may fit others).
It is designed for models with XM radio and is meant to be installed with an XM antenna.

According to Garmin's own Technical Specifications, the Nuvi 660's case is NOT watertight !  :005:

:430: :431: that was a typo on my part. It is Triumph's website that shows that the bracket is for the Nuvi 660.
The Zumo 660lm is still available here in the USA. But I just want to make sure I buy the correct one for the triumph bracket which says it is for the Nuvi. I think this may be a misprint but  :027:
I have changed the original post to fix the typo.

Below is the link to the Triumph instructions to install the bracket.   You can get an idea of what you would be getting into.  The instructions are not the best but if you think you can do it, you can do it.

http://www.triumphinstructions.com/ProdDocs/A9828011-US.pdf

You want the following Part #'s

A9828011 - Mounting Bracket for SE with XM Radio
A9938065 - Connector Kit

I purchased those two part #'s and the Zumo 660.   Everything went fine.

Hi crfroland,

If you buy the Garmin Zumo 660LM from wherever, it WILL fit on the Triumph bracket !

This is the bracket you need : Part Number A9828011 which accommodates the XM Antenna  :028:

I'm pretty confident that you can ignore the description that says it is for the "Nuvi" 660 and 220,
and that this is a typographical error by Triumph which should read "Zumo 660"  :169:

Also,

If you haven't seen them yet, in addition to the Fitting instructions
referred to by "BigD", have a look at these two topics :

Removing the Fairing, by Yours truly, and
Fitting Triumph Sat Nav mount & Zumo 660 by "davybull"  :028:
