TPMS Cost
« on: April 14, 2014, 06:29:29 pm »
Anyone else worried about the cost of replacing a TPMS sensor?  I'm getting one replaced on warranty and the dealer says it'd normally be about $180.  What happens 2-3 years down the road when the warranty is gone?  They are battery operated so there is going to be regular maintenance and the service manager says the batteries are not replaceable.

Can the low pressure warning be deactivated?  Is it a menu item?    If so, I'd be inclined to ignore it and do things the old fashioned way.

No doubt the cost is concern.  You might find the additional comments in this thread helpful

Except that it lights up a big red warning light which is really distracting.

And repeatedly replaces the audio text with some warning about TPMS failure.  I wonder if the dealer tool can disable them?

The service manager says that they can disable the TPMS if I decide I don't want to replace the sensors when I have to pay for them.  Since its under warranty it'll be replaced this time.  I just can't see paying $360 for a set of sensors every three years.  Maybe Triumph will come up with a version with a replaceable battery.  It just doesn't make sense to have to replace the whole sensor for a $5 battery.
