Radar Detector
« on: May 22, 2014, 05:32:28 am »
Has anyone installed a radar detector on their bike?  If so, how, where and what kind.  I realize this post may not apply to some of our European friends where radar detectors are illegal.

I have a Adaptiv TPX radar detector installed. http://www.adaptivtechnologies.com/gear/tpx-radar-detector

I used the Triumph GPS mount and installed my GPS using the handlebar mirror mount.

All works great,

For you deprived Europeans I sympathize.  When I moved to Europe I took my radar detector with me but I never once dared to use it.   I had a Hungarian acquaintance who begged me to sell it to him.  So I just gave it to him.  Never did find out if he got away with using it.  As soon as I moved back to the US I bought a Valentine One radar detector.  But while it is great in the car, it isn't suitable for my motorcycles.

Thanks for that nakerr.  The Adaptiv got a good write up by Pashnit.  It is a bit pricey.  Did you also get the jammer feature.  I was just wondering if there are other brands out there developed specifically for motorcycles.

I did not bother with the jammer feature.

On the Adaptiv can you use existing helmet earphones or do you have to use the Adaptiv?  I wouldn't want to screwup my Scala G9 setup.  Also how is the visual signal from the Adaptiv?  Do you have any auto radar detector experience you could compare it to?  My Valentine One gives a lot of distance warning.  How about the Adaptiv?  Any particular reason you didn't get the jammer?  I''ve always wondered if they really work.
