The grips and icon both only work with the engine running.
Just having the ignition on will not do it.
The icon has two marks, one for low and two for high.

It's also worth pointing out, that a few seconds after switching OFF the Heated Grips ( or Seats ),
the respective Icons are completely removed from the Instrument Panel Display !

Yes, my bike came new with the heated grips and seat but they forgot to active the icon. I had them take care of that (and several other issues) at my 500 mile service.

I don't know why they don't just active them all  at the factory. They won't show up anyway unless the stuff is fitted and turned on with engine running.

But it seems random. Some get the icons when the stuff is added and others don't. I think most don't, but your Triumph dealer should be able to  fix it while you wait.

I don't know why they didn't just install the heated grips at the factory.  My salesman actually thought the bike came with the heated grips because of the switch included on the bike.  I had to show him otherwise.  Glad Triumph at least sweetened the deal and included them with the topbox as part of my purchase.

Because many areas have warm winters and people don't want to pay extra for things that will never get used.  Having them as an option helps keep the price down for those who don't want such stuff.

BTW, when I purchased my TTSE, I simply asked for every option they made. I figure if I don't want something, I can keep it off.

Last month had the local dealer install heated handgrips to my 2013 TTSE. When I picked up the bike started it and switched on the handgrips; result grips warmed up but no symbol on the dash.

I advised the head Technician and Service Manager the only reason I decided for a dealer fit is to have the dash symbol enabled. Response was the Technician couldn't find the blanking plug for the shortening link. While I was there they connected the bike to the dealer tool; result no option to enable the handgrips.

Following week after the Service Manager had a chance to discuss with Triumph Australia I brought the bike back in to reload latest engine tune. Bike tune is up to date so no good there. Coincidently Triumph Australia was visiting and was surprised the icon couldn't be loaded.

So tomorrow I intend to trace the wiring to find the shortening link plug.....here's hoping.

BTW it's late Spring here so absolutely no need for heated grips, I hate having jobs not finished.

I am starting to feel very lucky. I installed mine this week and everything worked as planned,  and I just bought all the stuff separately and not the kit. icon present, and grips get toasty. I am ready for fall and winter!

Obviously my early build of TTSE doesn't have the splice to plug in the shortening plug  :033:. Time for an email to Triumph?

Travelling2bob :

With thanks to Member TerryB for the following information :
( Original Topic from back in 2014 at : No heated grip icon and grips don't work.

.... there are 2 ( versions of Heated Grip ) kits.
A9638088 does not supply the shorting link and relies on the ECU/ECM to enable the grip icon on the LCD.
A9638094 does supply the shorting link and does NOT rely on ECU/ECM to enable the grip icon on the LCD.
My 2014 Trophy SE did need the shorting link and did not need anything enabled in the ECU/ECM.

If you have this connector under your cockpit storage, then you have A9638094
and you simply need to connect that shorting link to enable the icon.

See Photo below - the two small white connectors with the Blue and Orange wires
are the connectors for the Heated Grips, and the Shorting Plug can be seen next to them -
all located underneath the Glove box.

Hope that helps  :028:

Cheers  :821:

Not really Coconut as I explained above my 2013 TTSE doesn't have the ability to plug in the shorting plug. Not too sure if I want to jam bridging wires into the 12v glove box plug....
